No School on Monday

There is no school on Monday, September 1, 2025 in honor of Labor Day.  We wish you a safe and happy holiday!  We look forward to seeing your child again on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.  School doors open at 9:00 a.m.  Children should be in classrooms by 9:15 a.m.

A reminder that school attendance is important.  We ask families' help by trying to schedule appointments and family vacations on days when there is no school for children.  Our next day of no school is Tuesday, September 9.

Specialist Spotlight - Art

Mustang artists have been having lots of fun in the art room from the first week of school!  We celebrated International Dot Day by reading the book The Dot and making our own creative dots to add to a collaborative mural.  Students were thrilled to be able to paint on the first day of art, and everyone got to learn the art room procedures while having lots of fun.

Kindergarten artists are continuing to work on painting for the next several weeks.  First graders are working on creating ceramic cupcakes.  Second graders are creating a painting of their community.  Third graders are creating a collage of their favorite holiday.  Fourth graders are creating ceramic coil pots.  Fifth graders are learning new oil pastel techniques and creating a globally inspired landscape.

If you would like to donate to the art room, we REALLY need baby wipes for hands and paper towels (school paper towels have a tough time picking up spills, and we do a lot of cleaning around here!)

I am looking forward to an amazing year of art and fun!

-Mrs. Springfield, art teacher

Learning About Life Science in Language Arts

Benchmark Unit 1 in Language Arts is about life science. Students in K-5 will be learning about plants, animals, and nature. Sixth grade students will learn about the natural balance of nature.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: What are some ways we can take care of nature and living things?
  • Activity: Pick an animal and act out how it moves or survives in its habitat — see if family members can guess!

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS

At Bren Mar Park, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.

These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit  Volunteer FCPS website , click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.

Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.

We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.

As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

Volunteer Opportunity - Challenged Materials Review Committee

Help Keep Students Safe — Become a Crossing Guard

Crossing Guard

Dependable and caring adults are needed to serve as crossing guards, helping students safely bike and walk to and from our schools. This is a great opportunity for retirees, stay-at-home parents, or anyone looking to make a difference in their community. Crossing guards will earn $16.50 per hour and receive bonus time: Work 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after school for a total of one hour a day and earn $33.00.

The Fairfax County Police Department has engaged a company, ACMS, to recruit crossing guards. Please visit their website to learn more and apply.

Join Us! Title 1 Annual Meeting

Join us for BMP's Annual Title 1 meeting Thursday, September 4th, lead by Principal Williams. This information session is for parents/guardians to learn more about what it means to be part of a Title 1 School community.  This meeting will be in-person and hosted virtually through Zoom.  The link will be sent to families on the day of the presentation.  A recording of the presentation will be posted on our website for families who may not be able to participate on the evening of the event.

Transportation Patience and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.

If your student’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

Attendance Matters!

Every day matters at Bren Mar Park ES!

Consistent school attendance is crucial for the academic and social development of the children in our school community.  Regular attendance leads to better academic performance, development of life skills, and strengths a child's sense of belonging within the school community.

To support your child's attendance, we ask that all family vacations and trips which would take your child out of school are scheduled on an already-scheduled day off from school.  You can view the 2025-26 FCPS calendar at https://www.fcps.edu/calendars

Parent Digital Consent and Early Release Wednesdays

Complete Permission Forms Today. Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. You may also opt in or opt out of after-school care on early release Wednesdays; read more below.

Visit FCPS’ Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.

Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare

While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by instructional assistants, substitutes, and school-based staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.

Parents and caregivers should log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.

  • OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
  • OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Families need to complete the opt in form by Monday, August 25, for after-school supervision for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify our front office at 703-914-7200.
