Wow! What an absolutely wonderful first week of school! See pictures of exciting new memories from kindergarten through sixth grade.
On Friday, our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders had a chance to hear the band, chorus, and orchestra from Marshall High School - and see many former lions! This was exciting as many of our students will begin with their instruments this week in band & strings.
Next week, on Thursday, September 4th, we will be hosting our in-person Back to School Night. Mark your calendar for this is a parent-only event.
Please check out the new FCPS volunteer requirements below. If you are interested in volunteering in school or chaperoning field trips, you will need to complete the volunteer background checks through this process.
Thank you for all the positive feedback and questions this week. You are always able to reach Mrs. Castillo at aocastillo@fcps.edu. See your children tomorrow!
- Add money to your child's lunch account through MySchoolBucks - this is also where families will pay for field trips, instruments, or other individual fees.

Lemon Road Lions ROAR! Our acronym, ROAR is central to all behavior expectations at Lemon Road. Mrs. Castillo and Ms. Ulsh lead assemblies on Tuesday to all students in 1st - 6th Grades. During these assemblies we taught or reminded students of ROAR expectations. These align with FCPS Student Rights & Responsibilities. In the next few weeks, Ms. Ulsh will visit each Kindergarten class to offer a similar assembly.
Every staff member at Lemon Road is tasked with expecting these behaviors from all students. Lemon Road students will realize that they learn more and school is a better place when everyone follows these expectations on the bus, in the classrooms, at specials, during lunch, and in the hallways.
Parents, please help us! Review the graphic above with your children and expect these behaviors at home. Children should follow directions the first time they are given, clean up after themselves, make eye contact with adults when they are speaking, and be welcoming to others. By maintaining the same expectations at home and school, we can partner together to help every lion have a great year!
Welcome to another wonderful year at LRES! We've already been busy kicking off the school year, and we're looking forward to many exciting and engaging activities throughout the school year for our Lemon Road community. If you have any questions, please email us at lemonroadpta@gmail.com.

- Students who are NEW to Lemon Road this year in 1st, 3rd, 4th, or 6th, will also receive a new polo at Back to School Night. We will have a table in the cafeteria for parents to pick up their polo. Stop by the table to say hello.
Room Parents: At Lemon Road, each classroom has at least two room parents. The room parents help with Freaky Fridays, Wednesday folders, classroom signups, class parties, field trips, etc. If you are interested in being a room parent, please reach out to your child's teacher ASAP. Room Parent Orientation will be in mid-September.

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe. These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at Lemon Road to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers and visitors to a school are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
