Stronger Together
Dear Clearview Families,
Students did an incredible job transitioning to school this week! Thank you for providing consistent bedtime and morning routines. It makes a difference.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Open House/Back to School Bonanza last week. To learn more about curriculum and ways to set your child up for success, please join us for Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 27.
Have a great weekend!

🎨After-School Clubs🎉
Students in grades 2-6 received Interest Forms in Tuesday folders this week. To indicate interest, please number (1, 2, 3) the appropriate box(es), print your child’s first and last name, and print and sign your name. Forms must be returned by Tuesday, August 26 if you would like for your child to be considered for participation. Students selected to participate will receive a permission slip which must be returned by Tuesday, September 9.
Labor Day
Friday, August 29, and Monday, September 1, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
Conversation Starters 💬
Here are some questions to ask your child over the weekend:
- Questions to ask:
- What is something new you learned this week?
- Tell me about your favorite thing at school?
- Where did you spend most of your recess and with whom?
- What things are you most looking forward to this school year?
- What is the name of a new friend?
🍎Food Sharing at Clearview ES🍊

Clearview started our food sharing program on the first day of school to reduce waste and food insecurity. It’s hard to believe but 290 pieces of food that otherwise would have gone into the trash were made available for hungry people!
We will continue to encourage students only to take what they need and teach them how to take part in food sharing.

The Clearview Wellness Team works together to nurture the social, emotional, and academic well-being of every student. By providing comprehensive support and fostering a safe, inclusive school community, we empower children to develop resilience, build positive relationships, and achieve their fullest potential. |
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies.

📝 New FCPS Homework Policy
Learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends, and small routines at home can help build strong habits that support student success. This year, you will notice your child bringing homework assignments in an effort to support our students in building lifelong academic habits and giving families a small window into the learning happening at school.
Why this shift?Research shows that short, developmentally appropriate practice at home can:
- Reinforce classroom learning
- Build responsibility, time management, and independent work habits
- Support reading growth through consistent reading at home
- Strengthen communication between school and home
Homework should not feel stressful or overwhelming. It’s meant to help your child grow. If you ever have concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher. We’re excited to partner with you in this new step toward supporting student success.
Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare
While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:35 PM on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by Clearview staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
Parents and caregivers should log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.
- OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
- OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.
Families need to complete the opt in form by Monday, August 25, for after-school supervision for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify our front office at least two weeks in advance to ensure enough staff are available to provide supervision.
Free and Reduced Meals
As of October 31, 2024 approximately 36 percent of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The free and reduced-price meals application includes an online option for parents to submit the information electronically for faster processing.
The online free and reduced-price meals application is available in the following languages (to change the language of the application click on the Language link in the top right of the screen).
***The online application can be completed on mobile devices.
Learning About Life Science in Language Arts
Benchmark Unit 1 in Language Arts is about life science. Students in K-5 will be learning about plants, animals, and nature. Sixth grade students will learn about the natural balance of nature.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What are some ways we can take care of nature and living things?
- Activity: Pick an animal and act out how it moves or survives in its habitat — see if family members can guess!
Sixth grade students will be learning about relationships in nature and the role we play in the balance of nature.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What’s your favorite thing about our earth?
- Activity: Choose a specific area (backyard, park, etc.).Identify and count the different types of plants, insects, birds, and other organisms you can find. Discuss how these organisms interact with each other and why they are important.
At the end of each K-6 unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
September 11: National Day of Service
With the upcoming 24th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.
September 17: Constitution Day
On September 17 of each year, schools must hold an educational program in honor of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. Schools determine what kind of educational programs are appropriate for their students. Learning experiences may be schoolwide or enacted through selected content or grade levels. Administrators should work with their social studies lead teachers to meet this requirement for Constitution and Citizenship Day.
Rosh Hashanah
Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Monday, September 22. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.
Tuesday, September 23, is a holiday for all FCPS students and staff. Schools and offices will be closed.

Blue Star Welcome Week
 |
|
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools will be intentionally celebrating and acknowledging Blue Star Welcome Week. |
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.

Welcome back from the Clearview PTA
The Clearview Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a way for parents, school staff, and community members to work together. Our goal is to help build a sense of community among Clearview families and provide resources and support to Clearview students. We also raise money to send every K-6 student on a field trip and to host staff appreciation events throughout the year.
All Clearview families are part of the PTA. Everyone is welcome at our events. We encourage you to come to our monthly meetings to meet other families, share questions and ideas, and hear school administrator updates.
You have the option to pay for a membership ($5-$15) as another way to show your financial support for local, state, and national PTAs. These organizations advocate for important issues like access to a quality public education for all children, critical federal and state funding for public schools, and school safety. Access our online membership form on PTBoard.
