Dear Whitman Families
It has been a wonderful week at Whitman, and I am so proud of the energy, focus, and effort our students are bringing to school each day. Thank you for your continued support in helping us start the year strong.
As a reminder, cell phones must remain tucked away at all times during the school day. This also includes earbuds, headphones, and any other electronic accessories. By keeping devices put away, we ensure that our classrooms remain focused, distraction-free learning environments where all students can thrive.
I also encourage you to join and support our PTSA. Your donations and membership help us provide resources, programs, and opportunities that make Whitman a special place for our students. Our partnership with families through the PTSA is truly incredible, and we are grateful for your involvement.
Together, we can keep the focus on learning and make this year a successful one for every student.

Joining the PTSA is one of the best ways to stay connected and involved in your child’s school experience. Your membership helps support important programs, events, and resources that benefit both students and staff. We are looking for two parents/guardians to represent Whitman on the Superintendent's Family Vision Group. This group is designed to bring together a diverse range of voices so that the work reflects the full spectrum of our community.
To help make participation accessible, translation services are available at all meetings, and transportation can be arranged upon request.
The kickoff meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 4th, and we would love to have Whitman’s representatives in place by then.
If you are interested in representing our school, please email Principal Flowers at jeflowers@fcps.edu.
Parents can access their child’s activity on FCPS devices through Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service. Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited.
The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s internet access on their FCPS device during non-school hours.

The 2025–26 school year is off to a fantastic start, and I’ve already been busy snapping photos of our favorite back-to-school moments for this year’s yearbook! Throughout the year, I’ll be reaching out with requests for pictures that you might be willing to share.
My first request is for summer photos—travel adventures, fun in the sun, summer activities, summer learning, or anything that highlights your student’s summer break.
I’m also looking for pictures of students on sports teams outside of school. Many of our Wildcats participate in community athletics, and with fall sports gearing up, I’d love to feature some of those action shots in the yearbook.
As the year goes on, I’ll continue collecting sports photos, so whenever you capture a good one, please send it my way!
