Limited Early Release Days for Elementary Schools - Response Needed 8/25

Limited early release days for elementary schools will shift to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year.

While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:40 p.m. on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by instructional assistants. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.

Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare

Elementary school parents and caregivers should log in to the FCPS Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent for Early Release Wednesday Childcare.

  • OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
  • OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Families need to complete the opt in form by Monday, August 25, to receive care for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify their school one week in advance to ensure schools are prepared with enough staff to supervise children staying at the school.

Three-hour early release days for our school will include:

  • September 10
  • October 29
  • November 12
  • December 10
  • February 18
  • March 18
  • April 22
  • May 13

Read more about early release Wednesdays on the FCPS website.

🚌🚗Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Please use the routes and locations marked below for arrival and dismissal.

Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:40 a.m. to ensure their safety and supervision.  Students should be in their classroom at 8:55 a.m.

We begin our dismissal process at 3:40 p.m. and all students are on their way home no later than 3:45 pm. A crossing guard will be located in front of the school on Colts Neck Rd.

Parents who wish to pick up their children by car should use the Kiss and Ride lane (marked in green) that is located off of Steeplechase Drive.

If your student’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703.249.7100 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.

Help Keep Students Safe — Become a Crossing Guard

Crossing Guard

Dependable and caring adults are needed to serve as crossing guards, helping students safely bike and walk to and from our schools. This is a great opportunity for retirees, stay-at-home parents, or anyone looking to make a difference in their community. Crossing guards will earn $16.50 per hour and receive bonus time: Work 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after school for a total of one hour a day and earn $33.00.

The Fairfax County Police Department has engaged a company, ACMS, to recruit crossing guards. Please visit their website to learn more and apply.

Everything You Need to Do Through SIS ParentVUE

Don’t forget your back-to-school forms and checklists! Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.

If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact our front office for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage

☑️ Update Contact Information

Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in SIS ParentVUE. To update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.

Parents/caregivers who do not have a ParentVUE account should contact our school for an activation code to create an account, or print and complete the Emergency Care Information Form and submit it to our front office.

☑️ Submit Absences

Parents/caregivers can submit daylong absences through SIS ParentVUE. Log in to the platform and click “Report Absence.” Partial day absences and changes of transportation should still be reported directly to our front office.

☑️ Review and Submit Immunization Forms

Parents/caregivers can check their child’s immunization compliance and submit immunization records in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to our front office.

If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form

Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.

Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line

Help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:

  • Teach your child their student ID number to receive meals at school.
  • Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase meals at school.
  • Apply for free and reduced-price meals. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should submit a new application as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens

Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.

Updated Special Education and 504 Handbooks

The Department of Special Services has updated and translated key resources to help our families of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Section 504 Plan.

These resources help family and staff understand procedures, rights, and processes. Find additional information on Special Education Instruction and the Family Academy: Resources to Support Special Education and 504 Plans pages.

Cell Phone and Device Use During the School Day 📱

To support a focused and distraction-free learning environment, students must keep their phones off and personally stored (for example, in backpacks) from the first bell to the last bell of the school day. This includes all cell phone accessories such as AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and any other items connected to the phone, which also must be off and put away during times when phone use is prohibited.

Smartwatches may be worn; however, any phone functions (such as texting, internet access, phone calls, etc.) must be disabled during the entire school day. Additionally, for safety and privacy reasons, students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, or other mobile devices in restrooms unless there is an emergency or explicit staff permission.

Should you need to get in contact with your child during the school day, you can call our main office at 703-262-7400.

FCPS is committed to ensuring every student has access to an education free from distractions caused by cell phones. Please ensure you and your child have reviewed the  SY 25-26 Student Rights & Responsibilities Family Guide which outlines acceptable use policies on the FCPS network and the expectations regarding cell phone and accessory use. Use of cell phones or accessories outside the guidelines of this policy is a violation of student disciplinary rules.

We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment for all students. Should you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact the school office.
