Welcome back Saratoga Families! What a wonderful first week we've had. Seeing our students' smiling faces return to the building, filling our halls with energy and excitement has provided us with a lot of joy this week. Our team is excited to kick off another fantastic school year with you.
We want to extend a huge thank you to all our families for the incredible work you did to prepare your students for the start of the school year. Your support made a big difference in ensuring a smooth and successful first week. We especially appreciate your cooperation with the new policy of students walking independently to their classrooms after the first day of school. This change was put in place to help create the safest and most secure learning environment possible, and it has already made a positive impact.
We were honored to have Superintendent Dr. Reid and school board members Sandy Anderson, Ryan McElveen, and Kyle McDaniel join us on the first day of school. They spent time in classrooms, observing how our teachers and staff build a strong sense of community and foster a safe learning environment for every student. We were so proud to share the great work happening here at Saratoga.
We are looking forward to another successful year and are excited to continue our partnership with you. Please note that there has been a change in the volunteer requirements for all FCPS schools. You can find more information about this new process in this edition of the Saratoga Connection.

New Volunteer Management System – Volunteer FCPSFCPS has launched a new system to help ensure student and staff safety. Effective immediately:
- If you plan to volunteer more than twice this school year, or chaperone a field trip, you must register in Volunteer FCPS.
- The process involves multiple steps and cannot be completed last minute, so we encourage you to start early.
Volunteer Levels

Level 1 – One-Time or Infrequent Volunteers (less than 3 times/year; does not include field trips)

Level 2 – Frequent Volunteers (more than twice/year or any field trip chaperone) – Requires background check and/or fingerprinting. Multiple fingerprinting locations are available. All field trip chaperones are Level 2, even if it’s your only volunteer activity.

Saratoga does not have Level 3 opportunities.
How to Register as a Volunteer:

Review FCPS Volunteer Guidelines – All volunteers must read the FCPS Volunteer Protocols before getting started.

Register in the FCPS Volunteer Portal
- Select “Schools”
- Search for Saratoga
- Sign up for available opportunities (You can register as a general volunteer to start).
Choose Your Volunteer Level (NEW) – If you might volunteer at a higher level later, we recommend registering as Level 2 now.
All volunteers (new or returning) must:
- Register in Volunteer FCPS
- Complete volunteer orientation
- Sign in through the visitor kiosk at each visit
- Complete a background check if required

🍴 Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals!According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage
Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
Complete Permission Forms TodayFamilies can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. You may also opt in or opt out of after-school care on early release Wednesdays; read more below.

Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare
While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 1:05 p.m. on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by instructional assistants, substitutes, and specialists. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
Elementary school parents and caregivers should log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.
- OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
- OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.
Families need to make their selection in the Parent Digital Consent system by Monday, August 25, to receive care for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify our front office one week in advance.
Band and Strings
Attention 4th, 5th and 6th grade families! Your children are eligible to participate in the Saratoga Band and Strings programs! 4th graders can only choose to participate in strings. 5th and 6th graders can participate in either band or strings (not both). Please complete the form for the program your child is interested in participating in.
Students can also participate in chorus in addition to either band or strings. We hope you join! It’s going to be a great year!

¡Bienvenidos de nuevo, familias de Saratoga! ¡Qué maravillosa primera semana hemos tenido! Ver las sonrisas de nuestros estudiantes regresar al edificio, llenando nuestros pasillos de energía y entusiasmo, nos ha dado mucha alegría esta semana. Nuestro equipo está emocionado de comenzar otro fantástico año escolar con ustedes.
Queremos agradecer enormemente a todas nuestras familias por el increíble trabajo que realizaron para preparar a sus estudiantes para el inicio del año escolar. Su apoyo fue fundamental para garantizar una primera semana fluida y exitosa. Agradecemos especialmente su cooperación con la nueva política de que los estudiantes caminen solos a sus aulas después del primer día de clases. Este cambio se implementó para ayudar a crear el entorno de aprendizaje más seguro posible y ya ha tenido un impacto positivo.
Nos sentimos honrados de contar con la presencia del superintendente Dr. Reid y de los miembros de la junta escolar Sandy Anderson, Ryan McElveen y Kyle McDaniel en el primer día de clases. Nuevo Sistema de Gestión de Voluntarios – Voluntarios FCPS
FCPS ha lanzado un nuevo sistema para garantizar la seguridad de los estudiantes y el personal.
Vigente desde ahora:
Si planea ser voluntario más de dos veces este año escolar o acompañar una excursión, debe registrarse en Voluntarios FCPS.
El proceso implica varios pasos y no se puede completar a última hora, por lo que le recomendamos comenzar con anticipación.
Niveles de Voluntariado
Nivel 1: Voluntarios Únicos o Infrecuentes (menos de 3 veces al año; no incluye excursiones)
Nivel 2: Voluntarios Frecuentes (más de dos veces al año o acompañantes de excursiones) – Se requiere verificación de antecedentes y/o toma de huellas dactilares. Hay varios lugares disponibles para la toma de huellas dactilares. Todos los acompañantes de excursiones son de Nivel 2, incluso si es su única actividad de voluntariado.
Saratoga no ofrece oportunidades de Nivel 3.
Cómo registrarse como voluntario:

🍴 ¡Solicite Hoy sus Comidas Gratuitas y a Precio Reducido!
Según los Centros para el Control de Enfermedades, desayunar en la escuela se asocia con mejores índices de asistencia, menos días de ausencia escolar y mejores calificaciones en los exámenes. Los estudiantes que califican para comidas gratis o a precio reducido reciben desayuno y almuerzo en la escuela sin costo alguno.
Las familias deben completar la Solicitud de Comidas Gratuitas y a Precio Reducido antes del comienzo de cada año escolar. Las solicitudes aprobadas podrían calificar para recibir beneficios estudiantiles adicionales. Encuentre la planilla de solicitud, revise cuáles son los requisitos e información actualizada en la página web de Comidas Gratuitas y a Precio Reducido.
Aquellos estudiantes cuyas solicitudes de comidas gratuitas y a precio reducido, hayan sido aprobadas el año anterior, son elegibles para recibir este beneficio por los primeros 30 días de clases (o hasta que una nueva solicitud haya sido aprobada). Las familias deben llenar la solicitud lo más pronto posible para que los estudiantes que sean elegibles puedan disfrutar de sus comidas sin costo alguno.

Las familias pueden autorizar fácilmente a sus hijos a acceder a diversos recursos escolares a través del sistema de Consentimiento Digital para Padres. Active o desactive las herramientas educativas en línea para su hijo y elija cómo se gestiona la información estudiantil. También puede activar o desactivar el cuidado infantil después de clases los miércoles de salida temprana; lea más a continuación.

Activar o desactivar el cuidado infantil los miércoles de salida temprana
Si bien anticipamos que la mayoría de los estudiantes saldrán a la 1:05 p. m. en los miércoles de salida temprana limitados, reconocemos que algunas familias podrían requerir cuidado infantil. Estos estudiantes serán supervisados por asistentes de instrucción, sustitutos y especialistas. No se impartirán nuevas clases, ya que el cuidado infantil después de clases es estrictamente supervisado.
Los padres y cuidadores de la escuela primaria deben iniciar sesión en el sistema de Consentimiento Digital para Padres para revisar y dar su consentimiento a diversos recursos y servicios, incluyendo el cuidado infantil los miércoles de salida temprana.
- OPTE POR EL SERVICIO si necesita cuidado infantil durante nuestros miércoles de salida temprana, que son limitados.
- OPTE POR EL SERVICIO si su hijo/a se irá a casa (o a la guardería acordada con SACC u otro proveedor) a la hora de salida temprana.
Las familias deben realizar su selección en el sistema de Consentimiento Digital de Padres antes del lunes 25 de agosto para recibir cuidado durante todos los miércoles de salida temprana. Si necesita cambiar su selección, debe notificar a nuestra oficina principal con una semana de anticipación.
Banda y Cuerdas
¡Atención, familias de 4.º, 5.º y 6.º grado! Sus hijos pueden participar en los programas de Banda y Cuerdas de Saratoga. Los alumnos de 4.º grado solo pueden optar por participar en cuerdas. Los alumnos de 5.º y 6.º grado pueden participar en la banda o en cuerdas (no en ambas). Por favor, completen el formulario del programa en el que su hijo esté interesado.
Los alumnos también pueden participar en el coro, además de la banda o las cuerdas. ¡Esperamos que se unan! ¡Será un año fantástico!
