Kings Park Families,
After an exciting first week of school, our students are settling nicely into their classroom communities. Classrooms are abuzz with curiosity and connections and students are embracing their new school routines. As a reminder, the school day begins at 8:40am. Any student arriving after 8:40am must be signed in by a parent at the office. We truly appreciate your support in helping us start each day smoothly.

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS
At Kings Park, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to the FCPS volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit the Kings Park Volunteer FCPS Page and click "Sign Up." After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check. If you would like to be eligible to chaperone your child's field trip and/or activity at any point this year, be sure to register as a "Level 3" volunteer. We ask that you do this as soon as possible, as we are uncertain of the length of time it will take to receive clearance.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more. Thank you for your partnership.
Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line
Help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:
Transportation Patience and Safety
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If your student’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center extends a warm welcome to all Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) families for the 2025-2026 academic year. They are committed to supporting FCPS students, families, and staff in accessing available resources and services within our community. Families can sign up to receive monthly FRC emails by subscribing to them through News You Choose. Check out their helpful Back to School resources and submit your email at the bottom of the site page to receive monthly emails. This month’s resources include how to find a tutor, Back to School educational packs, and digital resources about adjusting to school.
New Schoology Families Resource Module Added
This school year, FCPS will provide additional resources to support schools and families with Schoology success. A Schoology Families Resource Folder has been added to Kings Park’s All Parent/Guardians Schoology Course. This is the same course that contains FLE information. This folder is intended to provide resources for families as they use Schoology to actively support their child’s learning journey. This is part of an interdepartmental effort to ensure clarity, consistency, and access to all stakeholders through Schoology. Additional resources will follow in future News You Choose newsletters.
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available in Parent Digital Consent. Paper opt-out forms are available from your child’s school. Students receiving special education services and accessing modified curriculum will receive a printed opt-out form for modified FLE lessons.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.
Program questions may be addressed at your child’s school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or by email to fle@fcps.edu.
Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT) - NEW
Fairfax County Public Schools now uses the Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT) as its official ability screener/nationally normed ability assessment. This assessment will be administered in grade 2 and to select students in grades 3-7 this fall. The NGAT replaces both the CogAT (formerly given in grade 2 and selected students in grades 3-7) and the NNAT3 (formerly given in grade 1) as one piece of information used when identifying students for advanced academic programs.
Since we are no longer offering the CogAT or NNAT3 for general ability testing, requests to retake either of these assessments cannot be honored. If a parent/guardian requests a retake and the student has not previously used their one-time ability test retake option, they can be offered the NGAT for the fall administration. The NGAT provides a multi-domain score, similar to the CogAT, but the test is designed to be language independent similar to the NNAT3. All retake requests are due no later than September 30, 2025.
Please contact Kings Park’s School Testing Coordinators, Chandi Lind (cclind@fcps.edu) or Beth Beavers (EKBeavers@fcps.edu), or our AART, Jamie Mucciolo (jmmucciolo@fcps.edu), if you have any questions.
Lake Braddock Pyramid Night - Friday, September 5th, 5:00pm-6:30pm
Lake Braddock will be hosting their annual Pyramid Night on Friday, September 5th. The event includes fun games and activities like food trucks, music, an obstacle course, bounce houses and a dunk tank from 5:00pm-6:30pm.The first home football game will follow the festival and we hope you will be able to stay and participate. Tickets for the game are available for purchase through eTix, but the festival is free to attend.
We are excited to share that we have the opportunity for 10 KPES students to participate in the “Tunnel Run” to open the football game. If you are interested, please complete this form by Thursday, August 28. Any students who are randomly chosen will receive one free student and one free guardian ticket.
