The Sunshine Scoop
We had an exciting first week welcoming all of our students back to school! There has been so much positive energy and enthusiasm as students adjust to their new classroom and all the routines and procedures around the school. Please see below for important information and upcoming events.
Historical Marker Unveiling and Dedication
In 2021, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors initiated the Black/African American Historical Marker Project to help ensure a more comprehensive and inclusive telling of Fairfax County’s diverse history.
The Board invited local youth to nominate people and places significant to the African American community for the new markers, which commemorate an event, person or location of historical significance within the county.
A total of 53 nominations were received from individual students, classes and scout troops. Six finalists were selected for the historical markers, and one was Louise Archer. Please see the invitation below with information regarding the upcoming Historical Marker Unveiling and Dedication honoring Louise Archer on Saturday, September 6th. All are welcome!
🌟 CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
Louise Archer Families! Your energy and enthusiasm power our school community, and we CANNOT WAIT to welcome you into our classrooms, field trips, and more!
🔐 SAFETY FIRST: BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED! 🔐
To protect our students, all volunteers need a completed background check and fingerprinting on file with FCPS before joining the fun! This includes:
- Classroom helpers
- Field trip chaperones
- And more!
Ready to get cleared? Visit the FCPS Volunteer Page or connect with Mrs. Stille in our main office. Pro tip: Please be patient as our county processes requests from 140+ schools!

Early Release Days
This year, Louise Archer Elementary School will be having eight 3-hour early release days (9/10, 10/29, 11/12, 12/10, 2/18, 3/18, 4/22, and 5/13). Please use the Beginning of the Year (BOY) Digital Consent form to indicate whether you have a childcare hardship and your child needs childcare on the Wednesday Early Release Days. These students will be supervised by Instructional Assistants. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
You can find step-by-step instructions for accessing your BOY Consent Forms here:
The deadline to submit your consent is September 1. After this date, any changes must be communicated directly to the school.
-
-
OPT IN if you have a childcare hardship and require childcare on our limited Early Release Wednesdays. Your student will be dismissed at 4 p.m. by their normal dismissal route.
-
OPT OUT if your child will go home at the early release time (1:00 p.m.) by their normal dismissal route.
-
OPT OUT if your child is a PM SACC student and they will go to SACC at 1 p.m.
**The consent form serves as a year-long commitment to either opt in or opt out of childcare. If your needs change during the school year, please contact the office at least two weeks in advance.**
