 Dear Wolftrap Families,
WELCOME BACK! HAPPY NEW YEAR! We are so excited to see our Wolftrap Wolves gathered back at school! We hope you had a wonderful summer filled with rest and fun. It's hard to believe, but this marks the beginning of my 15th year as a proud member of the Wolftrap staff! Ms. Tipton is beginning her 9th year in Fairfax County, and we are happy to be together for our second year as the administrative team. We are incredibly excited to be back in the building and to kick off what we know will be an amazing school year.
Our vision continues to drive all the work we do. We are dedicated to cultivating a safe and welcoming environment that nurtures every learner. This mission is at the heart of our community, and it guides us as we help each child grow and thrive.
This year, we will focus on our school-wide improvement and innovation goals, which are posted on our website. Classes continue to work with the Portrait of a Graduate skills. Throughout the year, each class will select specific skills to focus on, and students will have the chance to apply and demonstrate their learning. This will all culminate in an end-of-year presentation where students will showcase their incredible progress and achievements.
We look forward to seeing all of our students' smiling faces. Let's make this a fantastic year together!
Best,
Dr. Maggie Grove, Principal
Ms. Megan Tipton, Assistant Principal
Our Hunter Mill School Board Representative, Ms. Melanie Meren, welcomes you!
WOLFTRAP UNDER THE ⭐: We are so excited to continue the tradition of Wolftrap Under the Stars on Friday, August 22nd, 5-7pm. Please remember these important guidelines.
-
This is not a drop off event. Please accompany your children or have them attend with another adult (Please do not send students with older siblings, alone.)
- While we encourage our staff to attend, they are not responsible for student behavior during the event. Please know where your children are at all times and monitor behavior.
- Please accompany children to the bathrooms that will be open in the gym. The school is not open this evening, beyond the bathrooms. The gym is for bathroom use only, not play.
- Please designate a place for your family to meet up, if separated. Each year, we have children who have become separated from families and need to be reunited.
- Please throw away your trash, and help us keep the field and playground clean!
✅Complete Permission Forms Today: Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. You may also opt in or opt out of after-school care on early release Wednesdays; read more below. Visit FCPS’ Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.
Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare: While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:15pm on early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by Instructional Assistants. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
Parents and caregivers should log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.
-
OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
-
OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.
Families need to complete the opt in form by Monday, August 25, for after-school supervision for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify our front office at least one week in advance to ensure enough staff are available to provide supervision. We will be reaching out to families who have opted in to find out how your child will be traveling home.
💻 Catch Up on Your Child’s Classwork in Schoology: Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected.
A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:
- Your child’s classes.
- Your child’s upcoming assignments.
- School, class, and group announcements.
Parent accounts will be available after Monday, August 18. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.
📃K-6 Homework Expectations: What to Expect This Year.
This year, your child will bring home purposeful homework assignments designed to reinforce classroom learning and support growing independence and time management. Homework might include reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, or health practice such as reflection questions, activities, projects, or tasks connected to what they've learned in class.
Why It Matters
- Helps develop strong academic habits like responsibility and problem‑solving
- Reinforces skills already taught in class
- Builds confidence and supports independent learning
How Families Can Help
- Choose a quiet, consistent spot and time for homework—reading right before bed works well.
- Help your child make a simple plan: “First I read, then I finish the math sheet.”
- Encourage your child’s best effort—and let us know if something feels too hard. That feedback helps teachers adjust instruction.
- Read together or talk about what your child is reading. This builds vocabulary and curiosity.
