In this meeting we will share upcoming events and information to be aware of related to post-secondary planning, with an emphasis on how best to support your student as they engage in the college application process. Classroom Highlights
Mr. Kin's Physics 1 students dove into the world of Fermi problems, using logic and estimation to solve real-world questions. Today, they tackled fun and thought-provoking challenges like estimating the number of cups of water in an Olympic-sized pool or estimating the time it would take to drive to the moon. This collaborative activity is helping them build crucial problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of scientific reasoning.

Ms. Glaser's AP English Language and Composition class kicked off the year building critical thinking and analytical skills by deconstructing images in preparation for writing rhetorical analysis essays. By examining elements like color, composition, and perspective, they learned to identify a photographer’s strategies and purpose, culminating in the creation of a thesis statement.

School Year 2025-2026
💯 Secondary Grading Updates
There will be new secondary grading policies in 2025-26. The goal of these changes is to increase consistency and clarity of grading practices. Learn about middle and high school grading policy updates.
🩹 Back-to-School Immunization Requirements
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
2025-2026 Health Room Information
The goal of the school health room is for students to experience a healthy and safe school year. Please help us by following current medication policies and updating emergency contact and student health information! Visit the Emergency Care Form & Health Room section of the MHS Back to School Kit.
Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Updates for 2025-26 School Year
At their May 8 meeting, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the SR&R, including its cell phone policy. Other SR&R updates include added clarity and/or procedures around topics such as discipline data, parent notifications, hate speech, and integrated discipline training. The full list of changes is available on BoardDocs.
Cell Phone Policy Update for High Schools
Beginning in August, high school students can only use their cell phones and other personal devices (AirPods, smart watches, etc.) during lunch and before or after school. This is a change from FCPS’ current cell phone policy, which allows high schoolers to use devices during passing periods. During the 2025-2026 school year, students must keep devices off and away during classroom time and during passing periods between classes.
We are committed to helping our students make responsible choices. If a student uses their phone during class, it will be collected by a member of the administrative or security team. The student will receive a receipt, and the phone will be stored in a locked cart until the end of the school day. Students may retrieve their phone after the final bell. Please visit our website to read more about the updated cell phone policy.
Attendance Reporting
Regular attendance can help students be successful at school, graduate on time, and achieve their life goals. Visit our website for attendance resources.
