Principal's Message August 17, 2025

First Day of School

Monday, August 18th, 2025 is the First Day of the 2025-26 School Year

Dear Stone Families,

Cheers to the start of the 2025-26 school year! On behalf of our entire staff, I am so excited to open our doors and welcome your students back to Stone Middle School.

Our team has been working hard all summer to prepare for this moment. We're not just ready for a new school year; we're ready to partner with you to ensure that every student has the tools and support they need to succeed academically and personally. We believe that all students are capable of success, no exceptions.

To help your student start strong and feel confident on the first day, here are a few tips:

  • Establish a strong morning routine. A good night's sleep and a nourishing breakfast can make a world of difference. Our cafeteria opens at 7:00 a.m. with a delicious breakfast ready for all students. Cost is $1.75.
  • Plan ahead. Review your student's schedule with them—the first day will follow an odd day schedule of periods 1, 3, 5, and 7. You can also lay out their clothes and pack their backpack the night before to save time.
  • Talk about the transportation plan. Whether they're taking the bus, walking, or getting a ride, make sure your student knows the plan. Remind them to set their alarm so they can start their day without any rush.

Our doors open at 7:00 a.m. for students, who should go directly to the cafeteria. Please reassure your student that our hallways will be full of friendly adults ready to help guide them to their classes. They will also receive their school-issued laptop on Thursday or Friday of this week.

One more thing parents…please follow our kiss and ride signs to ensure the safety of all our students as they arrive. Please do not drop off students in the staff parking lot or on the street.  At times the kiss and ride line might look long but it moves fast. Here is a video of Kiss N Ride Procedures.

We can't wait to see all of our Panthers on Monday! We are looking forward to a great week and an even better school year.

Let's have a great week Panthers,

Sonya Williams

Principal, Stone Middle School

Complete Permission Forms Today

Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. Visit FCPS’ Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.

🩹 Update Your Child’s Immunizations and Records

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Prior to the start of school on Monday, August 18, please submit your child’s immunization documentation. If your child has an appointment to receive their required immunizations after August 18, please submit an Immunization Action Plan to confirm the appointment.

You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to our front office. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form. Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.

If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your health care provider or visit the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department website for local immunization clinics and additional resources.

💻 Catch Up on Your Child’s Classwork in Schoology

Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected.

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • School, class, and group announcements.

Parent accounts will be available after Monday, August 18. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.

Student Services Updates

Thank you to all who attended our Open House on Friday.  We are excited to welcome all Panthers on Monday morning.  Our cafeteria will be open and serving breakfast for all students starting at 7am.  If your child qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch, this also includes breakfast items.  Other students may purchase breakfast items if desired.

Student Schedules

Students/Parents are encouraged to check in their Student/ParentVue applications to view their schedules for any updates prior to Monday morning.  All students will report to their first period class on Monday and will receive an updated YELLOW paper schedule.  They will also receive a 2nd handout with their locker number and combination to save.

LOCKERS

**If your child has an assigned locker in the Red or Green locker bay, they will have a NEW locker combination.  LOCKER USE IS OPTIONAL.  If using a locker causes your child any stress or anxiety, please reiterate practicing with a trusted adult in the building or taking a break from trying their combination lock.  Backpacks are still permitted for all students.

Schedule Changes

No updates to schedules will be made at this time unless there is a scheduling error, such as two History classes or no PE class.  We try our best to honor student elective choices, but due to scheduling restrictions, we aren’t able to guarantee 1st or 2nd choice electives.  If a student requests to change an elective, here are the parameters:

  • Students must first attend 3 full classes
  • Parents must email the counselor a request
  • Changes will be made based on availability

If you have questions, please contact your child’s school counselor, which is listed on their period 9 schedule:

Pink Team- Mr.Garcia agarcia1@fcps.edu

White & Black Teams- Ms.Marrefi kmarrefi@fcps.edu

Red & Blue Teams - Ms.Burton jaburton@fcps.edu
