Marcia's Message
Back to School Message
Dear Franconia Residents / Estimados Residentes de Franconia,
I can't believe that school starts on Monday! This summer has flown by, filled with incredible events and programs in Fairfax. I hope you had the opportunity to attend some shows with our District Supervisor , Rodney Lusk, or to explore our beautiful parks this season. FCPS offered some great summer programs that allowed our students to continue their enrichment and support their interests. Thank you to all the extraordinary staff that keep these summer programs going and allowing our students and families a safe place to learn and grow.
I also want to take a moment to share some exciting news from my office: we welcomed two new aides this summer to enhance the fantastic work being done in Franconia. Jessica O’Connor and Ana Chavez bring a wealth of knowledge and unique expertise, making them a wonderful addition to our team in the Franconia District.
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of preparations. We kicked off the summer with the Leadership Kick Off to Great Beginnings Conference for our new teachers, alongside a variety of exciting back-to-school events. These included:
- Teacher Breakfast: A warm welcome back for our incredible staff
- Popsicles on the Playground: An opportunity to build community before the first day
- Teacher Welcome Walks: A chance for teachers to meet students and families before school starts
- Open House: Where we can sense the excitement of something wonderful on the horizon
I want to express my admiration for our dedicated staff and community for creating such an inspiring atmosphere. At the latest Open House events I attended, I witnessed parents in their work uniforms eagerly ensuring their children had the complete experience. Teachers wore smiles from ear to ear, thrilled that the STUDENTS ARE COMING! Meanwhile, our operational staff worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure everyone had what they needed, and our leadership radiated excitement.
As we start this new school year, I want all students and families to be successful, please review this checklist to make sure your child is ready!
Remember your voice matters and I want to hear from you.
Warm Regards and Wishing you an Amazing First Day!

Fairfax County Special Education PTA, or SEPTA, is a PTA that serves students with disabilities and their families and staff across all 200 schools in Fairfax County Public Schools. SEPTA was founded in 2017 by a small group of families who were determined to build an organization where they could unite parents and staff to build connections, share experiences, educate one another, laugh and cry together, and work to bring about positive change in the lives of their children and students with disabilities. Throughout the year, we host educational presentations open to all on a variety of special education topics, from navigating community resources to IEP meeting tips and strategies to social-emotional learning topics like bullying and anxiety. Our membership dues and fundraising primarily support our staff mini-grants program and our end of year awards ceremony. Please keep an eye on SEPTA’s website and social media for 2025-2026 membership information, coming soon! Questions? Contact president@fairfaxcountysepta.org
