 Principal's Message
It was wonderful to see so many families at the Open House on Friday morning. We are excited to have our students back in school! Staff have worked hard over the past workweek to get everything ready for a strong start.
As a Responsive Classroom school, we will be focusing our first couple of weeks on school-wide expectations while also building strong relationships. Academic and social success stems from a positive and supportive school culture which we want for all our Chipmunks. We look forward to making their first week back a fun one!
We will upload a parent directory to our grade level Schoology site by the end of August. Anyone who would like to opt out (or limit some information) in this family directory should complete the opt out form. Parent name, student name, address and phone would be shared. OPT OUT
Please be patient with our new Kirby Road updates. Use caution around crosswalks and look for staff to direct and support you and our students. We are here to help.
This newsletter is packed with info and parent tasks, so please read all items. We appreciate your partnership as we kickoff the year and hope to see you at our beginning of the year barbeque and pot luck.

🚌Here Comes the Bus Mobile App
Know when your bus is approaching your stop. Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that provides real-time bus location. This helps parents and students get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and available on multiple devices.
Using the app is EASY! You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a SIS ParentVUE Account. Learn more about How to Get Started.
Walkers / Bike Rider Parent Permission
With principal approval, students are permitted to walk or bike home. Students may ONLY go home with this approval. Approval is provided to 4th, 5th and 6th graders where parents feel comfortable a child can responsibly walk or bike home alone. Older students are encourage to travel together to and from their neighborhood. A one mile limit is used for the approved radius.

Pick Up Patrol
All families received an email on Friday to include the default for afternoon dismissal. We need a dismissal plan for EVERY student. ONE PAGE HELP GUIDE. As of this evening we have 88% with a plan!
Default Plan Needed in PUP ASAP. Update from last year if needed.
Afterschool Activities: Add plan change for the date(s) they have an activity but do not change their default plan.
Attendance Updates in PUP - Add plan changes for the day if absent, coming to school late or leaving early.
PUP is vital for office staff and teachers to know where students are and how they are going home for the day.
Kiss N Ride Procedures
For the safety and security of our staff and students, parents are not allowed to escort children to class but we welcome you to take those special photos outside. You are welcome to use the pool parking lot if you would like to park nearby and walk your child up to the school. Please use the crosswalk.
Do not drop off any student on Kirby Road or other adjacent roads. No children are permitted to walk across the grassy areas where the buses cross.
ONLY utilize crosswalks to teach safe habits to our students.
Drop Off Begins at 8:30 AM
- Exhibit patience and care. Staff work to get students out of cars quickly and efficiently.
- Right Turn ONLY, No left turn into Kiss N Ride or when exiting the lot. This keeps flow open.
- Have your Hang Tag with last name on the rearview mirror when pulling in so we can call your child out of the gym. (we will provide this if needed)
- Pull all the way forward before unloading your child (staff will direct you)
- If your child needs help to unbuckle, parent should park in the lot and help your child. Continue to teach them this independent skill so we can get you through the line.

Pickup Procedures
Parents may pickup walkers at the Flagpole or Trailers. Please ensure you designate the pick up location in Pick Up Patrol. Please have a piece of paper with your last name written in large letters with the names of your children below. This will help us quickly identify your family and reconnect you with your child.
Throughout the school year, children may not be picked up between 3 - 3:35 as we are wrapping up the day and getting set for dismissal. If there is an emergency, please contact our front office.

Give Consent Digital Resources for All Students: Parent Digital Consent System (PDC).
3 Hr Early Release Student Childcare Survey - We require 100% response to this survey to ensure we can plan for all students who cannot go home on early release Wednesdays. Childcare will be provided by CES staff until our 3:35 dismissal. Buses will run at 12:35 and 3:35. COMPLETE form ASAP
Chesterbrook Grade Level Contact Directory - Opt Out due 8/22
All families will be included unless you would choose to opt out on this form. *This is not the PTA directory. A CES directory will be posted by grade level teachers in Schoology.
