 Happy Days are Here Again!
It was so exciting to see so many students and families today during Willow Welcome! We met new friends and families and reconnected with existing friends. What a great year this is going to be!
 1st Day of School 2025
Monday, August 18, is the first day of school. See the complete school year calendar.
FCPS parents, students, and staff members are invited to share their favorite pictures or videos from the first day of school on social media using the hashtag #FirstDayFairfax. Follow FCPS and your school on social media to see photos and videos throughout the school year!
Helpful Information
As you prepare for your child's return to school, please review this checklist to make sure your child is ready!
☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Contact our registrar at [email/phone number] if you need an activation code. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
☑️ Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) in the Parent/Guardian section of SIS ParentVUE.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meal benefits.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
Days marked with a blue “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked with an orange “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
Student ID Numbers Needed for School Meals (New This Year)
Starting this school year, students will enter their student ID number — not their current cafeteria PIN — at the cash register to receive school meals. Please remind your child of their student ID number, which you can find in SIS ParentVUE. View more updates and reminders for school meals this year.
 Helpful App
Did you know that if your child is a bus rider, you can know when your bus is approaching your stop? Here Comes the Bus app is a school bus tracing app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them to get to the bus stop on time. Find out more.
School Hours
The Willow Springs bell schedule is 9:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
During morning arrival, students are allowed into the building at 9:00 a.m.
- Parents who bring students to school are not allowed beyond the lobby area during arrival. This helps us keep our school safe.
Afternoon dismissal begins at 3:55 p.m.
- Patrols, Kiss and Ride, and SACC students are dismissed first.
- Walkers and students riding the first four buses are dismissed next.
- Students who ride the remaining buses are dismissed as their buses arrive. Bus arrivals are posted on screens in the classrooms. Students must remain attentive and leave promptly when their bus is posted.
The school office closes at 4:30 p.m.
 Daily School Dismissal
PickUp Patrol is our online system for managing dismissal every day. It is critical that the information in the system is up to date and accurate. Parents, please take a few minutes to login and update your child's information this weekend so we will be ready for dismissal on Monday!
Bus Riders
You should have received an email from FCPS' Office of Transportation Services with your child's assigned bus route information. Read that email carefully as it tells you where your child's assigned bus stop is and what the AM pick-up and PM drop-off times will be.
Bus routes are also posted in ParentVUE. Log in and look under ParentVUE Accounts to see bus information for your child.
Please be patient during the first week of school as we all adjust to the new routines and traffic patterns. Bus arrival and departure times may not be exact during this transition time.
Remember that a familiar adult must be at the bus stop and show the bus driver their kindergarten bus pass to receive your Kindergarten age child when he/she returns home on the bus. Kindergarten students are NEVER released from the buses without an adult present at the bus stop.
Kiss and Ride
The student drop-off and pickup area is called Kiss and Ride. If you will be driving your child(ren) to school, please be aware that the Kiss and Ride line gets very long, especially during the 1st week of school.
Please plan on arriving early and allow enough time in your schedule to wait in line for as long as it takes.
Safety at Kiss and Ride during arrival and dismissal is our #1 priority!
Please work with us to ensure safety for all. Students should be prepared to exit the car on their own, without parent support, on the curb-side. This is a serious safety precaution. Staff members and patrols will be there to assist the students as they safely exit the cars. Parents, please plan on following directions from the staff members who will be on duty helping during arrival and dismissal.
If you will be walking to and from the parking lot, be sure to walk in the crosswalk section.
Students may begin exiting cars at 9:00 AM.
In the afternoon, Kiss and Ride begins at 4:00 PM.

Calendar Adjustment: September 9th Special Election
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has set Tuesday, September 9, as the date for a special election in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District. Because more than half of our schools serve as polling locations, the Fairfax County Office of Elections asked us to consider closing for the day.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, all FCPS schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Reference the Friday, August 8 email from Fairfax County Public Schools about the election for details on how this affects staff.
