First Day of School is August 18!

students on the first day of school

We had a great time seeing families during our Family Reunion last week! Students and families were excited to meet their teachers, see friends, and tour the school. We can’t wait to see our students tomorrow morning on the first day of the 2025-2026 school year!

The doors open for students at 8:25 am. Our bell schedule is 8:45-3:30 each day. Families, thank you for reviewing arrival and dismissal methods with your children. It is our goal to begin reinforcing routines and procedures beginning day one. Therefore, family members will not be able to walk students to class on Monday. If your child is a bus rider, we strongly encourage you have them take the bus beginning the first day of school. Thank you!

Complete Permission Forms Today

Families can easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. Opt your child in or out of online educational tools and choose how student information is managed. You may also opt in or opt out of after-school care on early release Wednesdays; read more below.

Visit FCPS’ Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.

Opt In/Opt Out for Early Release Wednesday Childcare

While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:30 on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by instructional assistants and substitute teachers. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.

Parents and caregivers should log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.

  • OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
  • OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Families need to complete the opt in form by Monday, August 25, for after-school supervision for all early release Wednesdays. If a family needs to change their selection, they should notify our front office at least one week in advance to ensure enough staff are available to provide supervision.

Parklawn's Early Release Wednesday Schedule is below:

  • September 17
  • October 15
  • November 19
  • December 17
  • February 25
  • March 25
  • April 29

Labor Day Weekend

Calendar Reminder

Friday, August 29, and Monday, September 1, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

Back to School Night and Family Picnic: September 4!

back to school

Parklawn’s Back to School Night and family picnic is an opportunity for families to learn about the upcoming school year. We invite you to bring your own picnic dinner and join us at 5:00 for our family picnic. The Back-to-School Night sessions will run from 5:45-7:30. School bus transportation will be available at Skyline Towers and Arbour Park. More information coming soon!
