🩹 Update Your Child’s Immunizations and Records

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Prior to the start of school on Monday, August 18, please submit your child’s immunization documentation. If your child has an appointment to receive their required immunizations after August 18, please submit an Immunization Action Plan to confirm the appointment.

You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to our front office. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form. Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.

If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your health care provider or visit the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department website for local immunization clinics and additional resources.

💊Medication Drop Off

As we prepare for the start of the school year, we would like to remind you that all student medications must be dropped off at the school by a parent or guardian. Please ensure the following when dropping off medication:

  • All medications must be in their original pharmacy-labeled container. No more than 100 pills, tablets, or capsules may be included.
  • Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time to be given at school
  • Nonprescription medicationsshould always be kept in the original, unopened bottle or box, with the name of the medication clearly visible. No more than 100 pills, tablets, or capsules may be included.

The clinic will be open for medication drop-offs on the following dates:

  • Friday, August 15th from 7:45 am – 3:00 pm

💻 Catch Up on Your Child’s Classwork in Schoology

Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected.

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • School, class, and group announcements.

Parent accounts will be available after Monday, August 18. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.

🍴 Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals

Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage

Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

🏃Health and Physical Education Policies

Thank you to those who are participating in our Health and Physical Education program this upcoming school year!  The HPE Department is looking forward to a great 2025-26 school year.  As we approach the beginning of the school year, we are reaching out to get your support.  We have listed a few policies that will help us provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students at West Springfield High School.

  1. Dressing out: Students must wear a gray shirt and blue or black shorts. In order to safely participate, students are to wear sneakers or running shoes.  No flip flops, sandals, boots, or crocs should be worn during the PE portion of our classes. Students' participation in class activities can be limited due to improper clothing and shoes which can affect their grade. Students can bring a sweatshirt or sweatpants to put on when it’s cold.  Students are encouraged to wear the PE uniform.  You can order a uniform or other fitness attire using this ordering link:  https://bsnteamsports.com/shop/e2wGXmEYg.  The store is open now until September 2, 2025.  Orders will ship directly to you three to four weeks after the shop has closed.

  1. PE Locker Rooms & Backpacks:All students have access to PE locker rooms where they can dress out and store personal items.   All ninth-grade students will be assigned a PE locker and will need to remember their combinations. Tenth grade students, Personal Fitness, and Yoga for Wellness classes will bring their own combination lock and use it during class and then will remove it after class daily.  Locks left on after class will be removed and students will need to bring a new one for the next class.  Backpacks will be permitted in the locker rooms this year.  Students must put all backpacks and personal belongings in their PE locker prior to coming to the gyms for attendance.

Please remind students to lock up their personal belongings. FCPS teachers and staff are not responsible for students’ personal items.

  1. Phones: Students are notpermitted to use cell phones during all classes.  Phones must be put in bags or hall lockers before entering the locker room.

We appreciate your support as we begin the 2025-26 school year.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email the Department Chair for Health and Physical Education, Jennifer Davies JODavies@fcps.edu
