Dear Island Creek Families,

We loved welcoming our Croc Students and Families to school on Wednesday for Open House! It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new students and their families into the Island Creek community.

A special thank you to Marcia St. John-Cunning, Fairfax County School Board Member for the Franconia District, for attending our Open House and giving such a warm welcome to our students and families.

Thank you to the Island Creek families who donated food for the staff and to the Island Creek PTA for providing lunch for the staff on Friday.

The staff spent the week learning and preparing for the new school year. We engaged in collaborative learning that included:

  • Universal Design for Learning
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
  • Educational Technology Tools
  • Get2Green
  • Morning Meeting with Talking Sticks
  • Supports for Diverse Learners
  • Island Creek's Vision, Mission, and Core Values
  • Creating a Sense of Belonging for All Students and Families

We look forward to welcoming our school-age and students accessing PAC to a new year on Monday! On Monday, August 22, we will welcome our students accessing ECCB!

i

Warmly,

Jen Fallert, Principal

Karen Baxter, Assistant Principal

Lunch with your Child(ren)

To ensure school staff have time to teach and reinforce cafeteria routines and procedures, we will be delaying the visitation of family members during lunch until Monday, September 15.

Visiting Island Creek              (driver’s license is needed)

The safety and security of our students and our staff are of utmost importance. Every visitor who enters the building is monitored. All visitors entering Island Creek need to have a valid driver’s license and sign in using the Visitor Management System (VMS). The VMS will issue each visitor a sticker that should always be worn when in the building.

🍴 Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals!

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage

Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
