Message from Dr. Khoshaba
Greetings SoCo family,
This week has been nothing short of electric here at South County! Our incredible teachers are back on campus, filling classrooms and hallways with collaboration, laughter, and the unmistakable energy that comes from preparing for a brand-new school year. The spirit among our faculty has been off the charts—ideas are flowing, teamwork is shining, and the excitement is contagious. Now, all we need is our primary clients—our amazing students—to return next week and bring their joy, curiosity, and boundless energy to every corner of the building. We can’t wait to see the halls of Stallion Nation come alive!
School Culture
Stallion Stampede Success!
The Stallion Stampede charged ahead with incredible momentum, bringing over 700 students, parents, and staff into the heart of Stallion Nation on a warm Thursday afternoon. From the outstanding presentations by our Student Services team to the vibrant clubs and organizations fair in the Bubble, every corner of the building was buzzing with connection and school pride. Families explored, asked questions, and soaked in the spirit of South County as they prepared for the year ahead. The excitement was so contagious, you could say the crowd was unbridled in their enthusiasm!
Kicking Off the School Year in Stallion Style!
It’s here! The first day of school is just around the corner, as students return this Monday, August 18. The Senior Sunrise event starts at 5:45am at the stadium, and this event is exclusively for our Senior class. If your student is a senior, please give a reminder that this is the last time that he or she will have their first day of their senior year. I’m hoping for a big turn out to start this year off with a blast!
For everyone else, school hours are from 8:10am-2:45pm. Door 1 will open at 7:30am, while Door 12 will open at 7:45am.
Please encourage your student to arrive early to avoid the crowd and have the best start to this first day of school. As returning Stallions know, the busiest time of the morning is from 7:50-8:10, so everyone is encouraged to be here before that time frame.
Other important dates to keep in mind are:
- Labor Day holiday (schools closed Friday, August 29 and Monday, September 1)
- Back-to-School-Night event on Wednesday, September 3 from 6:00-7:30pm.
Reminders
Morning Traffic
For the safety of all students, staff, and bus riders, we kindly encourage families to use the Kiss-n-Ride entrances at Door 12 and Stadium Drive. As a reminder, many of our students will be driving onto campus for the first time this year, so we appreciate your patience and courtesy as they gain experience behind the wheel.
Cell Phone Policy
Regarding our new cell phone policy, I’m asking parents to review the following information with their child prior to the first day of school. Beginning this Monday, August 18, South County High School will implement a schoolwide cell phone policy designed to reduce distractions and help all students stay focused on learning. In line with FCPS guidelines and the new state-wide Phones Off, Learning On initiative, all phones and accessories (AirPods, earbuds, smart devices, etc.) must be turned off and stored away during instructional time—from the first bell at 8:10 AM until dismissal at 2:55 PM. The only exception is during lunch, while students are in the cafeteria. Phones must remain away during transitions, including to and from lunch.
Students using phones outside of permitted times will have them collected by staff, stored securely, and returned at the end of the school day. If you have any questions, please email me and I’ll respond as soon as possible.
Meditation/Prayer Room Permission Forms
For students to use the Prayer Room, parents or guardians must provide consent. If you would like to do so, please complete this form and have your child provide it to our Security Specialist, Mr. Champ, or drop it off in the Main Office.
We’re looking forward to an incredible 20th anniversary year in Stallion Country! Glad we’ll be doing it together as a team.

SCHS ATTENDANCE INFORMATION 2025-26
To ensure the safety and academic success of all our students, we want to inform you of some new and updated attendance procedures for the upcoming school year. Please review this information carefully, as it outlines the correct ways to report absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals.
Our school day begins promptly at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m. Students are expected to attend every scheduled class and activity each school day. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) requires that a call or note be received from a parent or guardian within 48 hours of an absence.
How to Report an Absence
The fastest and most preferred way to report a FULL DAY absence is by using ParentVUE. This method is the most efficient and will ensure your student's attendance is updated quickly.
You can also use one of the alternative options below, but please note that the response time may be slower than using ParentVUE.

- Your name, relationship to the student, and a contact phone number

- The date(s) of the absence
Please remember: Absences reported by students will not be excused. If a phone message or email is received from a number or address not listed in SIS, we will contact you to verify the absence.
Late Arrivals and Early Dismissals
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving between 8:10 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. must check in at a hallway tardy station.
- Students arriving after 8:20 a.m. must sign in at the Main Office (Door 1) to receive a pass to class.
- To excuse a tardy, a parent or guardian must provide a note, email, or phone call explaining the reason.
Early Dismissals
- Please provide at least 2 hours' notice for an early dismissal.
- Only a parent, guardian, or an adult on the Emergency Contact List with prior authorization from the parent may sign a student out. The adult must present a valid photo ID.
-
No student pick-up after 2:15 p.m. We cannot accommodate early dismissals in the last 30 minutes of the school day unless they are pre-arranged or for an emergency.
If a student feels unwell, they must go to the school clinic. The clinic staff will contact a parent or guardian if the student needs to go home.

Concession Stand Volunteers
We are excited for the Fall sports season and we NEED your help! In order for us to keep our concession stand up and running we need volunteers to assist us on game nights. The revenue generated through concessions serves as the SCHS Athletic Booster Club's primary source of funding. The money earned goes right back to the sports teams to cover the costs of equipment, uniforms, and more! Any family can volunteer! You do not need to have a student participating in Sports to make an impact! Visit the link below and consider helping us out one night! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
