Principal's Message

Hello Whitman Families,

The excitement is building—our Wildcats are almost back! We kick things off tomorrow, August 15th, with our Open House from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. This is a great chance for students to meet their teachers, find their classrooms, reconnect with friends, and get a head start on feeling confident for Monday. We can’t wait to see our hallways buzzing with energy and smiles again!

Our teachers and staff have been working incredibly hard to prepare welcoming spaces, engaging lessons, and a positive, supportive environment for every student. The first day of school is this Monday, August 18th, and we are ready for a year filled with learning, growth, and Wildcat pride.

Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your enthusiasm. Let’s make this the best year yet at Whitman Middle School!

See you tomorrow at the Open House—and again Monday for an amazing first day!

Bookmark the School Year Calendar

Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:

  • Days marked with a blue “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
  • Days marked with an orange “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
  • Days marked in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.

Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.

Phones Off & Away for the Day

Students in grades 7-8: Phones must be off and personally stored (i.e., backpacks, lockers, etc.)  for the duration of the school day: bell to bell. Phone accessories and all smart devices (e.g., airpods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the phone) are also to be off and away. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off from bell to bell. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. Cell phones may be used on campus before the first bell and after the last bell only.

Immunizations & Records

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Prior to the start of school on Monday, August 18, please submit your child’s immunization documentation. If your child has an appointment to receive their required immunizations after August 18, please submit an Immunization Action Plan to confirm the appointment.

You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form. Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.

If your child needs a vaccine, please make an appointment with your health care provider or visit the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department website for local immunization clinics and additional resources
