Message from Mr. Greata
It was wonderful to see our students back in school today, excited and ready for all the possibilities a new school year brings. With the sounds of the band kicking the energy into high gear and our leadership students offering warm greetings at the doors, we knew we were in for a great start. Of course, it was the Seniors who had the earliest and most enthusiastic start, showing up in great numbers for a donut and a sunrise. It was so heartwarming to see teachers and students welcoming each other in the hallways and classrooms, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
Students arrived ready to learn and ready to embrace our new policies, including our cell phone policy. We saw very few phones in the hallways, which meant very few had to be collected. We are hopeful that this clear and simple “no cell phones, bell-to-bell” policy will help students adjust quickly and allow them to focus on learning without distraction.
This afternoon, I also sent out a detailed description of our weapons detection plan, which will begin on Wednesday, August 20th. If you haven’t had a chance to review it, please check your email for the full details. Students will go through the system at Doors 18, 14, and 10. Door 1 will be reserved for students accompanied by an adult. We encourage everyone to plan to arrive a little earlier than usual to ensure students can get through the screening and still be in class on time.
We also have some important dates to share:
Back to School Night: Thursday, September 4th, at 6:30 p.m.
Graduation for the Class of 2026: Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
This week is the last round of scrimmages before our fall sports season kicks off in full. Please visit woodsonsports.com to get information on team schedules as well as the economical Cavs Sports Pass.
We are looking forward to a fantastic first week of school and an incredible year together!
Warm regards,
Kevin Greata

Student Services Updates
Updated Alpha Assignments for School Counselors
School counselor assignments have been updated for the 2025-2026 school year. Every few years, in order to balance counselor caseloads to ensure as much uniformity in the size of caseloads as possible, we must update the last name alpha ranges that school counselors serve and move some students to new counselors. Over the past couple of years, the disparity in the size of counselor caseloads has grown to a point where updates to alpha ranges were again needed to rebalance caseload sizes to ensure that counselors are able to provide consistently high-quality service to their students and parents/caregivers.
Below are the updated school counselor alpha assignments for this year, effective immediately (please search for the grade level and alpha range in which your last name falls). Please know that all seniors will remain with the same counselor. Therefore, you will see two alpha ranges noted for most counselors: one for students in grade 12 and the other for students in grade 9-11. This alpha split is for this year only. Next year, counselors will serve families in the single updated alpha range. The Student Services Staff Contact webpage has been updated to reflect the new caseloads. Please bookmark this site to refer to it as needed going forward.
· Jamie Korpacz: A-Bu (Gr. 12) / A-Bo (Gr. 9-11)
· Brooke Metrinko: Bv-Dj (Gr. 12) / Br-Dee (Gr. 9-11)
· Isabelle Hegland (replacing Adrienne Wood): Dk-Had (Gr. 12) / Def-Haf (Gr. 9-11)
· Grady Ford: Hae-Kh (Gr. 12) / Hag-Kh (Gr. 9-11)
· Elizabeth Walter: Ki-Mar (Gr. 12) / Ki-Mann (Gr. 9-11)
· Meagan Labuhn (replacing Victoria Powell): Mas-Ni (Gr. 12) / Mano-Oc (Gr. 9-11)
· Ashley Demaree: Nj-Rom (Gr. 12) / Od-Ros (Gr. 9-11)
· Rachel Bopp: Ron-Thi (Gr. 12) / Rot-Thi (Gr. 9-11)
· Elle Nguyen: Thj-Z (all students Gr. 9-12)
We know that change can be challenging at first, and that this split will also result in some families now working with two counselors for students in different grade levels. This change was done for the betterment of our students and school, and to ensure counselors have manageable case load sizes to provide the level of service all students should expect. All counselors are licensed and trained and are all equipped and ready to meet the needs of their updated caseloads. We look forward to partnering with and supporting all our Cavaliers this year!
New Epinephrine Authorization Form
The Asthma Authorization form SS/SE-65 and Epinephrine Authorization SS/SE-64 forms were recently updated last school year. Please use these new forms. Note: If you already have your completed forms for the upcoming school year using the old forms, they will be accepted.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our PHN - Josephine Namaganda jnamaganda@fcps.edu
Fall Athletic Tryouts
Students interested in Fall (or Winter/Spring) sports can visit the Woodson Athletics website to find out more information or contact the Activities Office at 703-503-4681.
In order for a student to try out for any athletic team, they must have the following items completed prior to the first day of tryouts:
1) Activity Registration (online submission)
2) VHSL Sports Physical turned in to the Athletic Trainer or Activities Office C103
Dietary Accommodations Form
The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is implementing a standardized process for dietary accommodations to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for our students. This form only needs to be filled out once while your student is enrolled at FCPS.
Please keep in mind the following information while reviewing the steps below:
- FCPS does not provide meals containing pork.
- We offer vegetarian and vegan options for lunch at every school, every day. If your student needs pork-free or vegetarian meals (which do not contain meat, poultry, or fish but may contain dairy and/or eggs), you do not need to fill out a Dietary Accommodation form, as we have those options available at all schools.
- The form must be completed and submitted via email to dietary.forms.fns@fcps.edu and the Registered Dietitians will reach out to the parent.
Please note that while FCPS is not a peanut-free kitchen, our peanut butter products are individually wrapped to prevent cross-contamination.
Immunization Requirement for Rising Seniors
Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit FCPS’ immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.
Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
Get more information on all student immunization requirements.
Please contact Woodson Registrar, Darlene Sheppard at dmsheppard@fcps.edu if you have any questions.
