Dear Terraset Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! Whether you are returning for another incredible year or are joining us for the first time, we are thrilled to have you as a part of our Tiger Family. At Terraset, we believe in an inclusive, responsive, and supportive learning environment where every student, family, and staff member feels like a valued member of our community. Our tenets are “We see you. We welcome you. You belong here.” This year we will be most focused on our continuous improvement of instruction and belonging for every member of our community. We look forward to sharing more about this work throughout the year.

As we approach the start of school (coming 8/18!), you are likely wondering about class placements, important dates, and logistics for arrival and dismissal. All of this and much more detailed information for the start of the school year is shared below and will be shared at our Open House event on Friday, August 15th:

  • 2:30-3:00pm:  Kindergarteners and Students new to Terraset
  • 3:00-4:00pm:  Grades 1-6
  • **Preschool students will hear directly from teachers about their individual Open House days and times.

This fun event is where you will meet your child’s teacher, see our classrooms, and connect with other families and community groups such as our Parent Teacher Organization, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

Class placement information will arrive separately via eNotify email and text to each individual family prior to Open House.

We are looking forward to a great year ahead!

Warmly,

Katie Aldridge, Principal

Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal

💊Student Medications

If your student requires medication during the school day, you may drop-off medications at Open House on August 15th. If you cannot make this date, call the health room 703-390-5610 or email krollason@fcps.edu to make an appointment. Elementary students are not permitted to transport medication in backpacks. Please see the link for necessary medication forms.

🩺Student Health Conditions

If your student has any health conditions that may affect his/her school day, please fill out the Health Information Form (SS/SE 71) on paper and return to school or electronically in SIS ParentVUE.

🚑Emergency Care Card

Please make sure your student's emergency care card (SS/SE 3) is updated for this year. It is important that we have updated information to be able to contact you in case of emergency or transportation issues on the first day.

If you have any questions or concerns about your student's health needs at school, please reach out to our Public Health Nurse, Katie Zinicola, kzinicola@fcps.edu, 571-587-1585

📝Opt-Out Flier

The 2025-26 Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms flyer is now online. If you wish to opt your child out of any of the activities mentioned in the opt-out booklet, you must complete and return the appropriate forms to your child’s school or online through the Parent Digital Consent system.

💻Digital Resource Consent Form

We want your child to get the most out of their school experience! To open up a world of exciting activities and valuable opportunities, we need your collaboration. Please take a moment at the beginning of the school year to review and provide your consent through our easy-to-use Parent Digital Consent system. Please reach out to Lauren Boyd if you have questions.

🗓️Early Release Wednesdays

The Early Release Wednesdays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development.  Students will be dismissed 3 hours early eight times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route.  However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Wednesdays for many of our families.  To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.

The following dates are planned for Early Release Wednesdays throughout the school year:

  • September 10
  • October 29
  • November 12
  • December 10
  • February 18
  • March 18
  • April 22
  • May 13

To OPT IN to afterschool care by the FCPS deadline of August 25, 2025, use the digital consent app. If you need support in using the digital consent app, please find more information using this link: Digital Consent Directions for Families.

👋🏼Arrival & Dismissal

Arrival and dismissal logistics will remain similar to last year. Busses will use the upper (parking lot) loop and Kiss & Ride will use the lower loop. Walkers will enter and exit through door 5.

*Continuing from this year: Exiting the school driveway during student arrival and dismissal will be right turn only. This procedure allows traffic to flow more efficiently to reduce delays for student arrival and departure.

🖱️Schoology/ParentVUE

Students, families, and staff throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system. Here is what you need to know now:

You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology.

🍌Free and Reduced Meals

Parents who wish to apply for free or reduced lunch must complete a new application. Please complete this form so that your students may be eligible for other services. Applications can be done online!

For more information about free and reduced-price meals and the online application form, please click here.

*Please note that this information is NOT automatically shared with the school. If you would like for us to have that, be sure to click the button that allows the school to access your information.

🍉Cafeteria Information

In order to ensure the safety and security of all students and to manage the limited space effectively, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate parents or guardians for lunch in the cafeteria.

We understand that sharing a meal with your child can be a special experience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students.

🎈Birthday Treat Policy

On students’ birthdays, they will get to choose from a menu of special “events” for their class. Our menu options are below and will likely be updated as the year goes on. This will allow for ALL children to have special birthday celebrations and there will be no worries about food allergies, too much sugar, etc.. Thank you for supporting this new idea by helping your child decide which option they will choose. Please do not send in food or toys for your child’s birthday. Thank you!

  • Stuffed Animal Day- all students are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal
  • Pajama Day- everyone has the option to wear their PJ’s
  • Extra Recess- class gets a few minutes of extra recess time
  • Favorite Story Day- birthday child gets to choose the read aloud book for the class
  • Additional non-food options may be communicated by individual teachers
