First Day of School Logistics

The first day of school is Monday, August 18, 2025. School hours are 8:40 AM to 3:25 PM. Families may walk students to class on their first day. (Parking is limited.) Doors will open at 8:25 AM and staff will be available to direct families.

Arrival & Dismissal

“Kiss and Ride” - Drop off & Pick Up by Car

Student pick up/drop off is only in the designated Kiss and Ride traffic pattern in the front of the school at door #1, the main entrance.

In the morning (AM)

  • Pull your car forward as far as possible in the line and remain in your car.
  • Make sure that your child exits your car on the building side.
  • Do not pass other cars in line.
  • No cell phone use/texting while in the Kiss and Ride lane.
  • Never leave your car unattended.
  • Please drive slowly.
  • Students will enter at door 1, main entrance.

 In the afternoon (PM)

  • Kiss and Ride tags should be displayed on the front dash or side window.
  • Please stay in your car and your child will come to you. Students need to enter vehicles on the building side.
  • Families will not be allowed to wait in the lobby or under the overhang in front of the school.
  • Please follow the directions of the staff on duty.

Bus Riders

  • Those students eligible to ride the school bus will receive an e-Notify email from Transportation directing you to look in your ParentVue account for bus stop location and time.
  • Please report to the bus stop at least five minutes prior to the listed time.
  • Students are required to board and depart the bus at their assigned stop.
  • Bus riders will arrive and dismiss directly to/from classrooms.
  • Please be patient with any changes or delays in the transportation schedule as adjustments are made during the first weeks of school.
  • Kindergarten students will not be let off the bus unless an adult or sibling in the seventh grade or older is present. Your child will be returned to school if no one is at the bus stop to meet them or if a child is uncomfortable exiting.

Wakefield Forest is in FCPS Area II Transportation Services (703-446-2050).

Bike Riders and Walkers

G1-6 bike riders and walkers will enter/leave from exit 10 (by the playground).  Kindergarten parents should drop off and pick up students at Door 11 as they are required to be picked up by an adult or sibling in 7th grade or older. If you are meeting a walker, please plan to meet them at a designated spot near the playground.

We Need Your Help

wolves

We are gearing up for a great school year. We are making big plans to expand our House System (schoolwide positive reinforcement system), create a calm space and enhance options for our teacher lounges. If you are able to support us with donations, we would appreciate it. See items here.

🍴 Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals!

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage

Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

Wakefield Forest is Turning 70

sock hop

Wakefield Forest ES is turning 70 in September. We plan to have some fun events for our students to celebrate that week. The evening celebration and sock hop is open to the whole community.

  • 50s diner in the cafeteria
  • Decades spirit day
  • Time capsule
  • 70th Celebration/Sock Hop-Thursday, September 4th

Do you want to volunteer to help support any of these events? Email Principal Prindle at sbprindle@fcps.edu.

We're looking for someone who could take an aerial photo of the full student body. If you can help, contact sbprindle@fcps.edu
