Dear Wolftrap Families,
Welcome to the beginning of a series of short weeks! Please check your FCPS calendar closely to make sure you know of all of the upcoming events and dates for early dismissals and closures, particularly in September.
Perhaps you have seen the new construction for the preschool playground outside! We are so excited to have that construction start for our littlest Wolfies. I have been advocating for this support for the students over the past two years. It is wonderful to see it finally come to fruition!
A few timely reminders!
- Please consider joining our AMAZING PTA!!! If you have not done so, Sign up today!

There will be three opportunities for parents to attend an information session about the Advanced Academics Program (AAP). These sessions will provide an overview of AAP services provided to students at Wolftrap. Parents will also learn about the process for referring students in grades 2-6 for Full-Time AAP services. Two sessions will be presented on Back-To-School Night, September 17th; at 5:15 and 6:45. There will be a third presentation on Monday, September 22nd from 9-10am. Please contact the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Stephanie Burdett, at sdburdett@fcps.edu with any questions.
At Wolftrap, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students. Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe. These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
All parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at Wolftrap need to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application. *If you intend to volunteer for a field trip or volunteer to be a WATCH dog, you will need to register for level 3. This requires a background check and may take more time. Please start the process right away!
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
Per the SR&R, all discipline incidents must be recorded in the Student Information System (SIS). This means that when a student is referred to administration for a behavior violation listed in the SR&R, the incidents are recorded in SIS and are attached to a student’s record. Documentation related to incidents that resulted in disciplinary action up to and including a short-term suspension are retained in a student’s scholastic record for 5 years after the incident occurred. Families will be notified within 24 hours of any SR&R violations that warrant disciplinary action and are encouraged to check ParentVUE to see their child’s discipline record. For any questions, please contact Megan Tipton, Assistant Principal metipton@fcps.edu
This is a friendly reminder about student dress code expectations at school. While we love to see our students express themselves, several students have been observed wearing clothing to school that could be a dress code violation, and we are asking for your help in supporting appropriate clothing choices for school. Specifically, certain summer attire choices expose body parts in a way that is not considered appropriate.
Dress code violations are subject to disciplinary consequences. Per the SR&R (page 24-25) and FCPS Regulation 2613.12:
- Students are expected to dress appropriately for a K-12 educational environment
- Clothing and accessories should not: Expose genitalia, chest, buttocks, underwear, or undergarments due to transparency, length, or lack of coverage.
We ask that you continue to closely monitor your child’s clothing choices and speak with your child privately to encourage careful selection of clothes for school. We may speak with students privately at school should clothing choices continue to violate dress code expectations. Thank you for your continued support at home and we appreciate your partnership in maintaining a positive learning environment at Wolftrap! For any questions, please contact Megan Tipton, Assistant Principal metipton@fcps.edu
