Message From The Principal
Hello Panther Families,
The energy is cranking up in the building! All our dedicated Carson staff members are officially back, and they're working incredibly hard to get everything ready for our students and families. They're setting up classrooms, collaborating on lessons, planning school-wide events, and putting the finishing touches on what promises to be a fantastic school year.
We are so excited to welcome everyone to our Student Orientation (students only) and Panther Palooza (students and families) this Thursday, August 14th! It's a great opportunity to meet teachers, find your classrooms, and connect with other members of our school community.
Just a reminder that the first day of school for students is Monday, August 18th.
See you on Thursday and Go Panthers!

☑️Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) in the Parent/Guardian section of SIS ParentVUE.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meal benefits.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked with a blue “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked with an orange “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
🍴Student ID Numbers Needed for School Meals
New This Year: Starting this school year, students will enter their student ID number — not their current cafeteria PIN — at the cash register to receive school meals. Please remind your child of their student ID number, which you can find in SIS ParentVUE. View more updates and reminders for school meals this year.

7th Grade Immunization Requirement
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
All students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Meningococcal (MenACWY) requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
ACTION REQUESTED: Please provide one of the following immunization documents to the Student Information Assistant (SIA) or Registrar at your child’s current elementary school as soon as possible:
- An immunization record showing that the child has received at least one dose of each of the required immunizations listed above.
- A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the vaccine(s) was given.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form
Immunizations are available from your child’s healthcare provider, the Fairfax County Health Department, or other community resources.

Please complete the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet via SIS ParentVue and digital consent via the Digital Consent Application. Please also complete the Permission to retest for state assessments located in the digital consent application. The enrolling parent* will be able to access OVU through their SIS ParentVUE account.
*The enrolling parent is the natural or adoptive parent or legal guardian with whom the student lives the preponderance of the school week and who enrolled the student in school (See Regulation 2240).

Greetings From The Carson School Clinic
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Greetings from your school Health Room!
The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) School Health Division’s primary goal is to promote the health and well-being of school-aged children. The School Health Division consists of Public Health Nurses (PHNs), School Health Aides (SHAs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), who provide various services to support this goal. PHNs create individualized health plans for students with complex health conditions and train school staff to help meet these needs during the school day. Meanwhile, SHAs and LPNs provide direct care to sick and injured students by following standardized protocols or health plans. They also administer medications and conduct vision and hearing screenings.
School Health Room Services Include:
- Care of sick and injured students in accordance with the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) School Health Emergency – Temporary Care Guidelines and students’ individualized health plans, if applicable.
- Administration of medications provided by parents/guardians with proper authorizations completed by their health care provider.
- Coordination of care for students with chronic health conditions during the school day.
- Hearing and vision screening (grades K, 3, 7, 10, new to FCPS, and those students referred by teachers and parents/guardians).
How can you help your school health room provide the best possible care?
- Have your student’s health care provider complete the FCPS medication authorization forms and submit them to the school health room annually, as applicable:
- Bring your student’s medications to the health room. Medications must be transported to and from school by a parent/guardian.
- All prescription medications must be in their original containers and labeled by a licensed prescriber or pharmacist in English (your pharmacist will usually provide an extra container if requested). The pharmacy label must match the authorization. Only a 30-day supply of prescription medication should be brought into school at a time. It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to bring additional refills, if needed, to the school.
- Medications must be kept in the school health room or other school-approved location unless approved for the student to carry it during school hours. Students approved to carry their own medication should have a backup dose kept in the school health room.
- OTC medication for headache, muscle ache, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps may be given as needed throughout the school year with only the parent/ guardian signature on part II of the FCPS Medication Authorization Form. OTC medication should always be kept in the original, unopened bottle or box with the name of the medication visible and no more than 100 pills/tablets/capsules.
- OTC medications other than pain relievers may be given up to ten consecutive school days with the parent/guardian signature on the FCPS Medication Authorization form before a health care provider’s authorization is required.
- Cough drops and throat lozenges may be carried and used by students in kindergarten through grade 12 as needed throughout the school year, provided that they are in the original container or packaging. Students must not share cough drops or throat lozenges under any circumstances.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in helping to make this a safe and healthy school year for all FCPS students.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact either your School Health Aide, Zahida Choudhary, at (703) 925-3610 or ztchoudhary1@fcps.edu your school Public Health Nurse, Hannah Wilkinson, BSN, RN, at (571) 595-6273 or hwilkinson@fcps.edu.
