Summer is flying by and we are less than two weeks away from the 1st day of school! We continue to work hard to make sure everything is ready for the start of another great school year.
The first day of school is Monday, August 18. Our school hours are 8:15 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Students are able to enter the building at 8:05 a.m. Breakfast and lunch are served every day.
The afternoon of Thursday, August 14 is filled with family events at Lemon Road to kick off the school year. New families are encouraged to join us in the cafeteria on Thursday, August 14 for a New Family Orientation and Tours beginning at 1 PM. This will be similar to our Kindergarten or Full-Time AAP Orientations held in the spring. All families are welcomed to join us for Open House on Thursday, August 14 at 2 PM. You can visit your child's classroom, drop off supplies, and say hi to new and old friends. Immediately following, join our staff on the blacktop for a casual Back to School Social & Snacks. We will have bottled water, chips, and popsicles/ice cream to welcome everyone. The Kona Ice Truck will also have additional treats available for purchase.
This year, classroom teachers and special education case managers will reach out to parents to introduce themselves via email and let you know they will be your child's teacher. These emails will be sent the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13th or morning of Thursday, August 14th.
We look forward to seeing you and our students soon!
The goal of the school health room is for students to experience a healthy and safe school year. Please help us by following current medication policies and updating emergency contact and student health information!
Medications: Prescription and nonprescription medications must stored and administered in the school health room. All medications, including Tylenol, ibuprofen, inhalers and epinephrine, require a properly completed Authorization Form each school year. Families may drop off medications and forms in the health room before the start of school by appointment or the afternoon of Thursday, August 14 (1 - 3 PM). Beginning August 18th, parents may drop off medications between 8am – 2:45pm. Prescription medications must be in original containers with a pharmacy label (up-to a 30-day supply). The instructions on the completed Authorization Form (e.g., medication name, dosage, administration time) must match the pharmacy label. Over-the-counter medications must be in original, unopened containers with no more than 100 pills/tablets/capsules.
Emergency Contact and Health Information: Parents/guardians should update emergency contact and health information using the ParentVUE Online Verification/Update Packet (select ‘Online Packets’ at the top right corner and then ‘Online Verification/Update’). Alternatively, you may complete paper Emergency Care Information and Health Information forms at any time.
Food Allergies and Dietary Restrictions: Parents/guardians of children with food allergies or dietary restrictions must have this form completed by their physician and sent according to the instructions to ensure our kitchen staff, classroom teachers, and office staff have pertinent information related to your child's needs.
If you have any medication-related questions or would like to discuss student health concerns, please contact our Public Health Nurse, Michael Chen, at mchen2@fcps.edu or our School Health Aide, Carey Monts, at csmonts@fcps.edu.
Monday, August 18, is the first day of school. See the complete school year calendar. FCPS parents, students, and staff members are invited to share their favorite pictures or videos from the first day of school on social media using the hashtag #FirstDayFairfax. Follow FCPS and your school on social media to see photos and videos throughout the school year!
Lemon Road permits all parents/guardians to walk their child to their classroom the first day of school. You can give a quick hug/kiss/photo at the door and then join the PTA in the cafeteria for coffee and refreshments before heading home.

Join us on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm for a Welcome BBQ Event at Mount Vernon High School (8515 Old Mount Vernon Road Alexandria, VA 22309). Enjoy food, fun, and community while making new friends and connecting with other military families from across the division.
Throughout the school year, we provide refreshments for our hard working staff in the staff lounge and at required meetings & trainings. We need your help with donations of individual snacks or drinks to make this happen. Our staff love a variety of sweet, salty, healthy snacks as well as sparkling water, soda, and k-cups.
