Vision Statement
Carter G. Woodson High School is a community that embraces diversity in a culture of improvement and success that promotes academic curiosity and individual mental and physical growth.
Message from Mr. Greata
Hello Woodson Community,
As we look forward to the start of the school year, we wanted to send out this weekly early, which contains a lot of important back to school information. This year, We will be sending out the Woodson Weekly on Monday afternoon, to help families better plan for the week. This same information will be sent out again through the weekly next Monday, the 11th, our first official Woodson Weekly for the year.
I also want to share that Michelle Case, one of our outstanding assistant principals, has accepted a new leadership opportunity at Chantilly High School. While we are certainly sad to see her go, we are incredibly proud of her and grateful for the tremendous impact she has had on our Carter G. Woodson community.
During her time with us, Michelle has served our students, staff, and families with dedication, integrity, and heart. Her commitment to equity, excellence, and student success has helped shape a positive and supportive environment throughout our school. From championing student engagement and academic growth to strengthening our professional learning communities, her leadership has left a lasting mark.
Thank you Michelle!

Student Services Updates
Student Class Schedules for This Year
School counselors have returned and are working hard on updating and finalizing student schedules for the new school year. Please know that student schedules will be available to students and parents/caregivers in SIS StudentVUE and SIS ParentVUE around 6:00am on Thursday, August 14th. Student schedules are not finalized until that time, to allow counselors to resolve conflicts and update schedules as needed to try and accommodate student schedule requests from academic advising last semester. If you have questions about scheduling, please contact your assigned school counselor. Please know that we are unable to accommodate many change requests at this time due to classes being full, but will work to resolve any errors in scheduling prior to school beginning on August 18th.
Updated Alpha Assignments for School Counselors
School counselor assignments have been updated for the 2025-2026 school year. Every few years, in order to balance counselor caseloads to ensure as much uniformity in the size of caseloads as possible, we must update the last name alpha ranges that school counselors serve and move some students to new counselors. Over the past couple of years, the disparity in the size of counselor caseloads has grown to a point where updates to alpha ranges were again needed to rebalance caseload sizes to ensure that counselors are able to provide consistently high-quality service to their students and parents/caregivers.
Below are the updated school counselor alpha assignments for this year, effective immediately (please search for the grade level and alpha range in which your last name falls). Please know that all seniors will remain with the same counselor. Therefore, you will see two alpha ranges noted for most counselors: one for students in grade 12 and the other for students in grade 9-11. This alpha split is for this year only. Next year, counselors will serve families in the single updated alpha range. The Student Services Staff Contact webpage has been updated to reflect the new caseloads. Please bookmark this site to refer to it as needed going forward.
· Jamie Korpacz: A-Bu (Gr. 12) / A-Bo (Gr. 9-11)
· Brooke Metrinko: Bv-Dj (Gr. 12) / Br-Dee (Gr. 9-11)
· Isabelle Hegland (replacing Adrienne Wood): Dk-Had (Gr. 12) / Def-Haf (Gr. 9-11)
· Grady Ford: Hae-Kh (Gr. 12) / Hag-Kh (Gr. 9-11)
· Elizabeth Walter: Ki-Mar (Gr. 12) / Ki-Mann (Gr. 9-11)
· Meagan Labuhn (replacing Victoria Powell): Mas-Ni (Gr. 12) / Mano-Oc (Gr. 9-11)
· Ashley Demaree: Nj-Rom (Gr. 12) / Od-Ros (Gr. 9-11)
· Rachel Bopp: Ron-Thi (Gr. 12) / Rot-Thi (Gr. 9-11)
· Elle Nguyen: Thj-Z (all students Gr. 9-12)
We know that change can be challenging at first, and that this split will also result in some families now working with two counselors for students in different grade levels. This change was done for the betterment of our students and school, and to ensure counselors have manageable case load sizes to provide the level of service all students should expect. All counselors are licensed and trained and are all equipped and ready to meet the needs of their updated caseloads. We look forward to partnering with and supporting all our Cavaliers this year!

Student Laptop Distribution
Starting on Wednesday, August 13th, we will be distributing student Chromebooks. Parents do not need to attend. However, if a parent needs to pick up the student Chromebook they will need the student id number in order for one to be checked out.
Distribution: Wednesday, August 13th, 9:00am-12:00pm Library
Thursday, August 14th, 4:00pm-7:00pm-Library
Friday, August 15th, 9:00am-12:00pm Library
If your student retained their school issued laptop this summer, they will continue to use that laptop for the 2025-2026 school year. They will not receive a new one during distribution days. If a student has a device that is not working or is damaged, they can come during any of the distribution days to receive a replacement.
Each student should bring their laptop on the first day of school fully charged and ready to go.
Every student must take a computer due to testing purposes. To take the PSAT/SAT, SOL, or AP test, each student must take the assessment on an FCPS device. As a result, we require each student to take an FCPS laptop even if a student decides to use their own personal device.

Dietary Accommodations Form
The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is implementing a standardized process for dietary accommodations to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for our students. This form only needs to be filled out once while your student is enrolled at FCPS.
Please keep in mind the following information while reviewing the steps below:
- FCPS does not provide meals containing pork.
- We offer vegetarian and vegan options for lunch at every school, every day. If your student needs pork-free or vegetarian meals (which do not contain meat, poultry, or fish but may contain dairy and/or eggs), you do not need to fill out a Dietary Accommodation form, as we have those options available at all schools.
- The form must be completed and submitted via email to dietary.forms.fns@fcps.edu and the Registered Dietitians will reach out to the parent.
Please note that while FCPS is not a peanut-free kitchen, our peanut butter products are individually wrapped to prevent cross-contamination.

Parking passes for the 2025-2026 school year will be available for purchase online only. Information on how to purchase parking passes will be released in mid-August.

Immunization Requirement for Rising Seniors
Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit FCPS’ immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.
Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
