We’re excited to kick off the new school year with Cub Run’s annual Welcome Walk! On Thursday, August 14, between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM, our Cub Run staff will be visiting homes in the community to greet families and welcome everyone back. If you’d like to participate, we’d love to stop by for a brief visit!
What will this look like? Your student(s) will be greeted with a brief visit at your front door or front lawn by their new teacher along with another Cub Run staff member. All visits will happen between the hours of 8:30-11:30AM. Please note: We are unable to provide specific arrival times due to scheduling routes/visit times.
If you would like your child's teacher to visit your home during the Welcome Walk on Thursday, August 14th, between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., please fill out the Welcome Walk survey for each child who attends Cub Run Elementary School.
The deadline to complete the survey is Wednesday, August 6.
We want to make sure we respect the wishes of families who prefer not to have a teacher visit, or have other commitments during that time, and be mindful of our teachers' time.To ensure a teacher visits your home during the Welcome Walk, please complete the survey by Wednesday, August 6. After this date, the survey will be closed as we prepare routes for our staff.
What if we are not available for this visit? If you will be away, busy or prefer to not participate, we will be offering another opportunity to meet the teacher and visit classrooms during Open House on Thursday, August 14 from 2:00-3:00PM. Your child’s teacher will also be posted in your ParentVUE account.

FCPS Family Vision Group - Representative Needed!
Dr. Reid, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, has launched the FCPS Family Vision Group. This group brings together parents and caregivers in a meaningful way through sharing diverse perspectives to ensure that FCPS provides the best possible education experience for each and every student. The Family Vision Group also provides another opportunity to put our 2023-2030 Strategic Plan in action through meaningful communication and collaboration with families and caregivers.
By participating, parents/caregivers gain valuable knowledge and connections to become powerful partners in their child's educational journey. The group also facilitates open discussions with Dr. Reid on important topics related to student success. The group meets six times from September 2025-May 2026. The FCPS Family Vision Group seeks to recognize and strengthen the positive impact of community engagement on student achievement.
Key responsibilities of the FCPS Family Connection Group Include:
- Regularly attend FCPS Family Vision Group meetings. (Tentative meeting schedule: September 4, September 10, November 5, January 14, March 4, May 6 from 6:00-7:30pm.)
- Support the superintendent's outreach efforts to engage families and community members.
- Actively participate in the exchange of information and perspectives.
- Serve as ambassadors to your school community by being an additional bridge to sharing information between families and the superintendent.
- Commit to pursuing the interest of each and every student in Fairfax County Public Schools.
For more details on the group’s structure and purpose, please visit the Superintendent’s Family Vision Group webpage.
We are still looking for one more family representative to serve on this group for this school year to represent the Cub Run community. If you are interested, please reach out to me by email at mhmiller@fcps.edu or by calling the main office at (703) 633-7500.
Thank you so much in advance for your support of this division wide opportunity for families!
Reminders
Kiss & Ride Vehicle Tag
If you have a child attending Cub Run next year who was in Kiss & Ride this year, please keep your tag in a safe place for the summer. Your family will continue to have the same number and this will avoid re-printing the tags in the fall.

Kindergarten Registeration: It's as Easy as 1-2-3...
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, between January and April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.
A strong start is Goal 1 of the 2023-30 Strategic Plan.
There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation and any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.
💻 Try Online Registration
Online registration for the 2025-26 school year is open for parents/caregivers who would like to enroll their child in FCPS for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process.

Helping Your Child Prepare for KindergartenWe recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Explore the resources on FCPS’ School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage for ways to help ensure your child starts kindergarten with confidence.
