Haycock

Dear Haycock Families,

We hope you are having an amazing summer.  We are working hard on preparing for a great 2025-26 school year.

Haycock Elementary opened in September of 1955, so this year we will be celebrating 70 years of being awesome.🎇

If your child has medication that they will need to take during school hours this coming year, parents can begin dropping of medications in the school health room starting on Monday, August 4.

We are looking forward to welcoming all our students in August.  Please put the important dates below on your calendars.  We'll see everyone soon!

With appreciation for your partnership,

Haycock Dining Assistant Position❤️

Are you interested in working a few days a week?  We are looking for a Dining Assistant to work in the cafeteria from 11:00 to 2:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. If you are interested, please email your resume to Cathie Eames at CJEames@fcps.edu.

It's a great opportunity to help out at Haycock, see your child during the day, and earn a little extra money.

Surprise our Teachers!

Share your Child's Message

We want each of our students to feel a sense of belonging and kindness this year. To welcome our teachers back and let them hear from our students, we’re putting together a video montage of students sharing what they want their teacher to do to make them feel seen, heard, and valued.

If you’d like to participate, please record a short video of your child answering:

“How could your teacher help you feel truly understood and supported in class this year?”

Submit your video using this Google Form by Wednesday, August 6. If you have trouble uploading, feel free to email the clip to krstyles@fcps.edu with the subject line “Student Video.”

Open House/Meet the Teacher Schedule

You will receive an introductory email from your child's teacher on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13.  Come meet your child's teacher(s) on Thursday, August 14 and drop off school supplies at the same time.

To spread out the number of people in the building at the same time, we will follow this schedule for Open House:

1:00-1:30 Families with last names beginning A-F

1:30-2:00 Families with last names beginning G-L

2:00-2:30 Families with last names beginning M-R

2:30-3:00 Families with last names beginning S-Z

Raised beds

Thank you to the families and students who helped overhaul the raised beds in the back of Haycock last spring, those who have been helping us water them this summer, and those who have been coming in to help feed the fish and turtles. And a special thank you to Mr. Baker, 4th grade teacher, who has been working on all our outside gardens and learning areas this summer.  Look at our raised garden beds now!!

🍽️ Summer Meals for Students

FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. Check FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services webpage and the USDA Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder for specific dates, times, and locations. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please email summermeals@fcps.edu or call 703-813-4800.

🍴 Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals!

Eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.

Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage

Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

💻Support Your Child’s Success by Checking SIS ParentVUE

Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Parents/caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child. Contact our school registrar, Yujin Choi at ychoi2@fcps.edu, if you need a code.

Once you have activated a SIS ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same SIS ParentVUE account. You may also access SIS ParentVUE using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

Need help creating an account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

🩹 Back-to-School Immunization Requirements

Make sure your child has all of their required immunizations before the first day of school. Check their immunization records to see what they might be missing. You can:

  1. Request immunization records online through the Virginia Immunization Information System (a free service).
  2. Get records from other states’ systems if your child was immunized outside of Virginia.
  3. Request records from your health care provider. Some may charge for copies.

💉Where to Receive Immunizations

If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your family’s health care provider or one of the following clinics:

FCHD offers limited walk-in hours for immunization services on a first-come first served basis. Immunizations are also available by appointment.

  • Inova Cares Back to School Pediatric Health Fairs provide children ages 5 and up with free school physicals and immunizations. Weekday and weekend clinics are available in July and August. These health fairs are for VA Medicaid or Uninsured Inova registered patients only. Appointments are required. Call 703-698-2550 to make an appointment. Bring vaccine records to the appointment.

Local immunization clinics and additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and from the FCHD.
