Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am writing to encourage you to participate in the selection of principals for two Mount Vernon District schools: Fort Belvoir Primary ES and Sandburg MS. FCPS needs to hear your voice and understand your priorities so selected principals are aligned with our community expectations and requirements.

The Fort Belvoir Primary ES process is already underway!

  1. You can click here to watch a recording of the Fort Belvoir ES Primary Community Meeting held on July 9, 2025. Enter passcode: +8eA.f%Mj7
  2. You can share your thoughts on the key school issues or challenges our new principal should address, along with the desired skills and experience you believe the selected candidate should possess. Email me directly at mdunne@fcps.edu

The Sandburg MS process begins this week!

  1. You can participate in the Sandburg MS Principal Selection Community Meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. During this meeting, FCPS officials will outline the process, including the multiple levels of interviews that will take place to select a candidate who is the best fit and match to lead this school. Click here to join the meeting. Meeting ID: 942 2308 9617. Passcode: 044453.
  2. You can volunteer to serve on the principal interview panel (date TBA). The advisory panel is composed of three staff representatives and three parent/family or community representatives from the Sandburg MS community. If you are interested in serving as a panelist for principal interviews, please submit your information on the Google Interest form.
  3. You can provide written input on the desired skills, experience, and leadership experience. Please send your input to HRPrincipalPool@fcps.edu
  4. Please also send your thoughts and input to me at mdunne@fcps.edu

Very respectfully,

Mateo Dunne
