Principal's Message / Administrative Team Update
We would like to thank Dr. Richard Deivert for his service to Langley High School. Since joining us in 2021, Dr. Deivert has been a steady, insightful, and guiding presence. His extensive experience, thoughtful leadership, and collaborative spirit have had a profound impact at Langley. We are incredibly grateful for all he has contributed. Rich will bring his more than 20 years of FCPS experience to Oakton High School for the 2025-2026 school year.
We would also like to welcome Ms. Lisa Taweel to the Langley administrative team. Lisa joins us from South Lakes High School. With over 20 years of experience working in FCPS, she brings a wealth of knowledge, having served in various roles across multiple schools, including Westfield High School and Robinson Secondary School. Lisa holds a B.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and an M.Ed. in Special Education and Educational Leadership from George Mason University. She is also a proud alumna of McLean High School. Lisa is excited to return to her home community.

High School Grading Updates
New grading policies will be implemented for all middle and high school classes in the 2025-26 academic year. The goal of these changes is to increase consistency and clarity of grading practices.

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Updates for 2025-26 School Year
At their May 8 meeting, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the SR&R, including its cell phone policy. Other SR&R updates include added clarity and/or procedures around topics such as discipline data, parent notifications, hate speech, and integrated discipline training. Cell Phone Policy Update for High Schools
Beginning in August, high school students may use their cell phones and other personal devices (such as AirPods and smartwatches) only during lunch and before or after school. This is a change from FCPS’ current cell phone policy, which currently allows high school students to use devices during passing periods. Next school year, students must keep devices off and away during classroom time and passing periods between classes.

The Langley Read – 9th Grade Students / Class of 2029
We are happy to welcome back “The Langley Read,” A shared literary experience that unites students, families, and faculty in thoughtful reflection. This revitalized initiative catalyzes school-wide conversations centered on character, resilience, and integrity, thereby fostering a stronger and more connected community.
2025–2026: Resilience and Overcoming Adversity
Our 2025–2026 Langley Read selection is I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys, a gripping historical thriller set in communist Romania. This powerful novel explores critical themes that will guide conversations throughout the year:
We encourage students and families in the Class of 2029 to read the novel over the summer in preparation for school-wide activities, classroom discussions, and reflective writing opportunities that will launch in the fall. A reading guide is linked below as an additional resource for students and families.

Copies are available for pickup at Langley High School's Main Office over the summer if your student did not receive a copy.
🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 12th Graders
Additional immunizations are required for students entering 12th grade:
- All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
- To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

Updated immunization records can be submitted to Langley HS in the following ways:

Starting July 25: Upload the updated immunization records to ParentVue.
- Here are the directions for uploading documentation to ParentVue.
- If you do not have access to ParentVue, you may drop off a hard copy of the immunization records for us to upload.
