While we have a few weeks left until we welcome students back, we are in full swing preparing for the new year. Next week our office team will return, new teachers across the district will attend the FCPS Great Beginnings program to acclimate to FCPS and we will put the finishing touches on our preparations for all staff to return to work on August 11th.
We truly enjoyed having so many students participate in our Summer Quest camps this summer. Thank you to Maddy Hamsher-King for her leadership to coordinate with PTA and families, staff the program and support all of our wonderful teachers and families. It was great to see so many of our students enjoying their sessions.
We have had quite the summer of construction projects which are shared below. Also, I just received an amazing update that Chesterbrook ES has been put on the next wave of security camera installations. I will keep our community updated on the installation timeline and am excited this advancement in security for our school. This is made possible through a combination of available funding, including both internal FCPS resources and grant supported allocations. Many wonderful updates are in store as we welcome back our Chipmunks!

Early Release Wednesdays
Please note the dates listed below for your calendar. We will release students at 12:35 pm on dates below. These afternoons may be great options to plan for medical appointments.
For chronically absent students (missed 18 days or more in a school year), we will use these afternoons for additional instruction. Mrs. Kirkpatrick will reach out to families of students that have hit this chronic absenteeism marker to best support your child during our early release time.
At OPEN House on 8/15, we will begin collecting afterschool childcare plans from each family for our first early release on 9/10.

Kirby Road Safety Updates
This week, Kirby Road is under construction to include new lining and safety updates to our crosswalk areas. We are thankful for the collaborative work of Delegate Rip Sullivan, Dranesville Board of Supervisor James Bierman, Fairfax County Government , VDOT, Fairfax County School Board Vice Chair and Dranesville District Representative, Robyn Lady and community members including many our PTA members and Vinson Hall colleagues. We have all been hard at work advocating for the safety of our community.
The work will bring more awareness to pedestrians in the crosswalk and aim to reduce the ability of cars to speed around others within the school zone. The double lane in front of Chesterbrook Elementary will be reduced to a single lane and pedestrian safe harbors will be added to the larger crosswalk and Vinson Hall.

New Foyer Vestibule Installation Nears Completion
Preschool Playground Under Construction
This playground is specifically designed for our youngest children to explore and develop skills. It will feature an appropriate sized climbing structure as well as a riding area for tricycles. Our students will enjoy a fenced in safe area to play and build connections with peers.

It's that time of year to confirm/change you enrollment to school newsletters where appropriate. If your family has moved or moved to a new school, you can change your newsletter subscriptions or unenroll with the News You Choose subscriber preferences manager.
