Admin Avenue
Dear Olde Creek Families,
We are so excited to welcome you back for another amazing school year! The first day of school is Monday, August 18, and we can’t wait to open our doors and see all of our Bears smiling and ready to learn. Whether you're new to our community or returning for another great year, we’re so glad you’re here.
This is the first edition of our Bear Bulletin, our weekly newsletter that will be sent out every Friday. Please make it a habit to check it each week for important updates, reminders, and celebrations. You’ll find everything from school-specific information to updates from our wonderful PTA, upcoming Woodson Pyramid events, and news from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
There is a lot of important information below, so please take the time to read carefully. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to help!
Let’s make it a fantastic year together. Go Bears! 🐾
With appreciation and Bear pride,
Courtney Korb, Principal Matt Elkins, Assistant Principal Stephanie Kaminsky, Assistant Principal

Staff Kick-Off & Community Popsicle Party!
Mark Your Calendars
On Monday, August 11th, Olde Creek will be holding our annual Staff-Only Kick-Off. As part of the fun, teams of teachers and staff will be out and about in the Olde Creek neighborhood completing their kick-off challenge (think Amazing Race for teachers!)—and we would LOVE to see our students and families along the way!
All students are invited to join us at the SOC Pool at 11:00 AM for a popsicle and a chance to cheer on our staff as they complete their challenge. We’ll be at the pool from 11:00–11:30 AM, and even if you’re not a pool member, you’re still welcome to come through the gate and find us under the pavilion. We can’t wait to see you there!
Thank you so much to the Somerset Olde Creek Pool for allowing us to come and see students!

Apply Today for Free and Reduced Price Meals!
🍴According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Access the application and view criteria on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage
Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
