Good afternoon, Lane families!
We hope you are enjoying the summer so far. It's hard to believe it's already July!
We'd like to remind you that we will offer our first "back to school" event next Thursday morning, July 10, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Come join us in the cafeteria to meet the Lane administration team – Principal Ebony Opie, Assistant Principal Allen Dickens, and new Assistant Principal Maureen Lopez – as we enjoy some informal conversation and community building as well as light refreshments. The whole family is welcome!
In order to ensure we have enough refreshments, please let us know you plan to attend and how many will be in your party using the form linked below.

While you're at the school that morning – or at any other time that it's convenient for you during the next couple of weeks – we invite you to visit our back garden (by the sheds behind the cafeteria) to harvest some Monster Swiss Chard to take home to your table. We have an abundance of this highly nutritional leafy green vegetable (similar to spinach or kale and packed with vitamins A, C, and K) and would love to share! Swiss chard is versatile as well as delicious; both the leaves and the stems are edible. We've provided a photo and a simple recipe below. Happy gardening!

Simple Sautéed Swiss Chard
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch swiss chard, stems and leaves separated and chopped
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a large pan or skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped swiss chard stems and sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Add the chopped swiss chard leaves and minced garlic (if using).
- Sauté for another 3-5 minutes, or until the leaves are wilted and tender.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- For a brighter flavor, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice before serving.
