Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I was pleased to meet with so many families and neighbors earlier this week to discuss the proposed boundary revisions to the Mount Vernon HS pyramid. While boundary changes are inherently challenging - as shown by the 40+ year gap since the last review - I welcome the thoughtful community engagement. The passionate advocacy and meaningful dialogue confirmed what I already knew: FCPS families care deeply about their schools.

One question I heard from several people is "what can we do to make our voices heard?" The more advocacy FCPS receives on this issue, the more likely these issues will be addressed. I have heard your concerns and will continue to advocate for them with Dr. Reid and my colleagues on the School Board, but other voices are needed as well. Here is a list of ways you can share your concerns.

  1. In the Scenario Explorer, click on the orange “Comment” button. The Superintendent has stated that FCPS will accept comments through July 18 at 5 PM.
  2. Contact your representatives on the Boundary Review Advisory Committee. Contact information is available online for most representatives.
  3. Contact the Superintendent, Dr. Reid.
  4. Contact the Regional Assistant Superintendents - Region 3: Ray Lonnett (Edison, Mount Vernon, and West Potomac pyramids), Region 4: Pablo Resendiz (South County pyramid), Region 6: Dr. Michelle Boyd (Hayfield and Lewis pyramids).
  5. Contact the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs.
  6. Contact your representatives on the School Board.
    1. Mateo Dunne, Mount Vernon District;
    2. Kyle McDaniel, At Large;
    3. Ryan McElveen, At Large; and
    4. Ilryong Moon, At Large.
  7. Contact your PTA, PTO, or PTSA and request it to send a formal letter regarding the boundary adjustments to the persons named in (2)-(6) above.
  8. Contact your HOA or civic association and request it to send a formal letter regarding the boundary adjustments to the persons named in (2)-(6) above.
  9. Contact the county-wide organizations on the Boundary Review Advisory Committee and request them to send a formal letter regarding the boundary adjustments to the persons named in (2)-(6) above.
  10. Organize a petition in your community and share with the persons named in (2)-(6) above.

Very respectfully,

Mateo Dunne

Mateo Dunne, Mount Vernon District Representative
