About the School Board’s Community Advisory Committees
These committees are comprised of community members, students’ parents/family members, students, and FCPS employees, who provide input and recommendations to the School Board on specific issues. Committee membership aims to gather representation across a number of experiences, areas of knowledge, and geographic areas of Fairfax County. Additionally, qualifications for appointment and length of service on some committees are mandated by Virginia Code, as noted in each committee’s description on the links above. Every July, the Board will develop charges for each citizen advisory committee. Advisory committees' requirements are detailed in Policy 1710. A School Board Member is appointed as a liaison for each committee annually, also in July.
Participation on the committee requires the following:
- Attend monthly meetings, generally held once a month virtually or in-person
- Provide substantial input during meetings and work on a team
- Assist with development of a report for the Committee’s assigned charge
Thank you for your interest in providing your time, experience, and interest for the benefit of our students and Fairfax County Public Schools!!
