The Lion's Roar
Friday, June 13, 2025 – Special End-of-Year Edition
An Awesome Finish to an Amazing Year!
Throughout the first three days this week, Lane Lions of all ages marked the end of the 2024-25 school year with celebrations of all sorts. The centerpiece was Tuesday’s 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony for our oldest lions who will be moving on to middle school next year. It included a clap-out by the younger students, the presentation of certificates, and a small reception for families afterwards. Here are just a few pictures from that morning.

Second grade celebrated the school year and the coming summer with a beach party.

Lane’s ESOL teachers Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Yamamura celebrated their students’ success as they "graduated" from the program.

Reading Buddies in Mr. Durkin’s kindergarten class and Ms. McGregor’s 5th grade class shared some outdoor fun at their final meeting of the year.

There were lots of cheers and a few tears at dismissal on Wednesday as the school year officially came to an end. Lane staff said goodbye in style with its annual last-day clap-out as students left the building.

Principal's Message
Dear Lane Lion Families,
As we close out another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that we have accomplished together. What a year it has been!
From day one, our students have shown up—literally and figuratively! We are so proud of the consistency in attendance this year. Each day in school has meant more opportunities to grow, learn, and connect. And that dedication has paid off in big ways!
Academically, our students have truly shined. We've seen amazing growth in math, science, and reading, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, curiosity, and resilience our learners have demonstrated. Whether mastering multiplication, diving into experiments, or becoming confident readers, our Lions have roared with pride and purpose.
But just as important as academics are the relationships that were built along the way. This year has been filled with laughter, teamwork, mentorship, and joy. Watching friendships bloom and seeing students support one another has reminded us all of the power of community.
As your principal, I am so excited to continue this journey with Lane. There’s something truly special about our school—the spirit, the heart, and the commitment to each and every child. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished this year and am beyond grateful to be part of this amazing school family.
We will miss our students this summer, but we hope it's filled with rest, fun, adventure, and maybe a good book or two. We can't wait to welcome everyone back in August for another year of growth, discovery, and celebration.
Have a safe and joyful summer!
With pride and gratitude,
Ebony Opie Principal Lane Elementary School

Have a Great Summer!
We would like to wish all of our Lane Lion families a terrific summer vacation. It’s been a great school year, and our partnership with you was essential in making it successful.
To those students and families who are moving on, including our oldest lions who are moving up to middle school, we wish you all the best in your new adventures. Never forget: Once a Lane Lion, always a Lane Lion!
To those families who are returning to Lane next year, we look forward to seeing you when school resumes in August.

Save the Dates for Summer and Back-to-School Events!
We have started planning some community events for the summer and the school year ahead! Please be sure to put these events on your calendars if you’d like to attend.
-
Open House: NEW DATE COMING SOON!
- Due to a change in FCPS policy, we will likely need to change the date of Open House from August 14. Please stay tuned for updates. We will let families know the date and time as soon as it is confirmed.
- Whatever the date, the plan for the event remains the same! Students and their families are invited to come to school to see their classrooms, meet their teachers, and reconnect with Lane friends. In order to manage our capacity for this popular event, we will divide our school community into three groups, by student last name. (If you have children with different last names, your family may choose a session based on any of the names.) Times coming soon!
- PTA First Day Coffee: Monday, August 18, 9:20 – 10:30 a.m.
- Back-to-School Night: Tuesday, August 26, 6 – 8 p.m.
More details about these and other events will be sent out in the weeks ahead.
