Congratulations, we have made it to the last day of school! It is exciting to think that our 7th graders are now 50% of the way through middle school, and our 8th graders prepare for new and exciting challenges in high school.
As most of you know I will be leaving Longfellow at the end of the week to become the principal at West Springfield High School. I just want to share how much I have loved my time in the Longfellow community. Longfellow is an amazing school and truly a special place, made so by the incredible people – our dedicated staff, remarkable students, and supportive parents — who walk through our doors every day.
I want to thank your entire community for all you have done to make it a great school year. I hope you all have a great summer, and I wish everyone the best in the coming year.

LMS Jump Start Program - Registration now open!
Jump Start registration is now open on myschoolbucks. Choose between session 1 – August 4th – 5th or session 2 – August 6th – 7th. This program is for rising 7th graders and new to FCPS students.

📍 Comprehensive Boundary Review Update
Our last community meeting for the first part of Phase 2 of the comprehensive boundary review was held June 6. Please stay tuned for summaries of each meeting, along with additional data, which will be shared next week.
As a reminder, no boundary changes have been proposed for the upcoming (2025-26) school year.
Whether you were able to attend a meeting or not, we encourage you to use the Boundary Explorer Tool to see how the initial draft scenarios may affect boundaries. Also, be sure to visit our Comprehensive Boundary Review webpage for information about this process. If you have a question or comment, please submit it on our website.
💚 Free Virtual Mental Health Consultations for Parents and Secondary Students
This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer free virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from June 23 through August 1. Any FCPS parent, or middle or high school student, will have an opportunity to schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference. FCPS’ Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests from camps to health and safety resources.

🌻 Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation — and Neither Does Fun!
FCPS’ Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!
🍽️ Summer Meals for Students: Details Coming Soon
FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. Check FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services webpage and the USDA Meals Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder in mid-June for specific dates, times, and locations.
Please note that no meals will be served on the June 19 and July 4 holidays. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please contact us at SummerMeals@fcps.edu or at 703-813-4800.
🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:
• All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations before the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
o To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age seven or older.
o To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
o As a parent/guardian, you may decide not to have your child receive the HPV vaccination. If that is the case, the school does not require documentation.
• All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) before the beginning of school.
o To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

🌱 Your Child's Mental Wellness Matters: Access Comprehensive Services
Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed.
The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other options.

📞 FCPS Ombuds Office Provides Confidential Guidance
The Office of the Ombuds engages with families, students, and staff to offer resources and improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community. They work as an independent confidential resource to help answer questions, offer options to resolve concerns, and hear complaints regarding FCPS matters.

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Updates for 2025-26 School Year
At their May 8 meeting, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the SR&R, including its cell phone policy. Other SR&R updates include added clarity and/or procedures around topics such as discipline data, parent notifications, hate speech, and integrated discipline training.
