The Mustang Weekly Newsletter

Greetings McNair Students and Families,

What an incredible last week of school we've had! It was truly filled with joy, from welcoming the Westfield High School graduates for their Senior Walk to our exciting indoor Field Day, the festive luau, the heartwarming first-grade performance, and our inspiring awards ceremonies. We're so proud of all our Mustangs and will miss them dearly over the summer.

As you embark on summer adventures, please encourage your children to read every day. Keeping their minds active with books is one of the best ways to prepare for a successful return in August. We can't wait to welcome them back!

If you have a future Mustang who will be 5 years old by September 30th and still needs to register for Kindergarten, please call us today! You can contact the main office at 703-793-4800 for more information.

As always, thank you so much for your partnership and continuous support. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything at all we can do to support you and your family. Together, all things are possible.

Have a wonderful summer, Mustangs! We're filled with gratitude for each and every one of you. You should feel so proud of all of your growth, progress, and accomplishments this school year. There is much to celebrate!

All the best,

Mrs. Watson and Mrs. O'Bryant

🐻 It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

p

Time to get your child registered!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, between January and April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

✨ A strong start is Goal 1 of the 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

💻 Try Online Registration

Online registration for the 2025-26 school year is open. Parents/caregivers may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process

When registering, parents/caregivers will need to create or log in to an existing SIS ParentVUE account.

Language Arts Summer Learning: Magazines, Weekly Plans, Activities, and More

We will be sending students home with two Benchmark magazines to help them practice their reading and writing skills during the summer. You will also receive a letter from our school with weekly learning plans and activities.

Find more ways to support your child's literacy skills on FCPS’ Summer Learning Resources webpage. All of these activities are optional, but we encourage families to help their students practice reading and writing during summer break, so that they can start strong next school year.

Technology Support for Summer Learning

FCPS is offering technology at home for families who would like support for their child to access online summer learning resources.

Students in grades K-6, who do not have access to technology at home, can sign out a laptop by submitting the linked form to their school before Wednesday, June 11. Devices will need to be returned to the school by July 30.

For technology support, please visit the Families: Tools and Technology page

FCPS Free Quality Half-Day Preschool Program!

The Community Peer program provides an opportunity for preschoolers with special needs to work and play on a regular basis with typically developing preschoolers from the community. The community children participating in this project have the unique opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with the school’s preschoolers. The preschoolers with special needs will in turn benefit from being with community peers who model age-appropriate language, motor, and social skills. The early childhood special education program uses a child-centered approach to learning. There are established daily routines that include circle, centers, story-time, small group,  music, art, and outside play. Classes are staffed by an early childhood special education teacher and a full-time instructional assistant.

FCPS Strategic Plan

FCPS Strategic Plan Excellence, Equity and Opportunity

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

School Board Unanimously Adopts the FCPS 2025-26 Budget

The Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the FCPS Fiscal Year 2025-26 Approved Budget. Facing years of chronic underfunding, the final budget required $121 million in reductions to the needs-based budget that was carefully developed with the FCPS community’s high expectations in mind. While these cuts and reductions will impact our classes, the school division will continue to do what is necessary to provide a world-class education for every student. Read the budget news release.
