Roadrunner Rundown

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We are proud of our 6th grade students who will be finishing their time here at Marshall Road this week. We will celebrate this milestone tomorrow at the Moving Up Ceremony where 6th grade families will come to celebrate with these students. More information can be found below. We wish these Roadrunners the very best as they transition to Middle School.

Thank you for partnering with us in the education of your children. Thank you for giving your time by volunteering in classrooms and at PTA events. Thank you for the numerous ways you have supported MRES this school year!

Our last day of school is this Wednesday, June 11 and we will dismiss 2 hours early. The summer office hours will be 9:00 am-1:00 pm.

We wish you and your family a wonderful summer!

Much peace.

Bike Train Extended

Bike Train Extended

Five Marshall Road students and their dads recently embarked on an incredible journey, biking 62 miles along the GAP trail in Pennsylvania. They completed this challenging ride over two days. Their determination and resilience shone through as they navigated the scenic trail. This is a great visual for the journey we have been on this school year from the first to the last day of the school year. There have been straight even paths and unexpected curves. It takes flexibility, patience and resilience to stay the course and we are proud of all of our roadrunners for finishing the year strong.

PTA Update

Reminder: GiftCrowd Closes Tonight at 11:30 pm!

As the 2024–2025 school year comes to a close, many families look for ways to show appreciation to the incredible staff at MRES. One of the ways to do that is through GiftCrowd, which gives you the opportunity to leave a note and a gift for any staff member who has made a difference in your family’s school experience.

Just like in previous years, participation is completely optional—and simple! You can choose to thank individual staff members or contribute to teams we’ve created for staff who might not always be in the spotlight. These group gifts will be evenly split among the team members once the collection ends, and each recipient will receive your message along with the gift.

Important Details:

  • Minimum contribution: $2.00
  • Deadline to contribute: Tonight, June 9 at 11:30 pm (ET)
  • Gifts will be sent automatically to recipients after the deadline
  • Recipients will see your message and name, but not the amount you contributed
  • Gifts can be redeemed for a wide range of gift cards (Amazon, Target, Walmart, and more)

Questions? Email Monica at president@marshallroadpta.org.

PTA Thank you

A Heartfelt Thanks from the PTA

What a year it’s been!  We want to sincerely thank all of our MRES families for your incredible support. Whether you volunteered your time, attended events, contributed to fundraisers, or simply cheered us on—you made a difference. Thanks to you, we were able to connect with one another and build a stronger school community. We hosted memorable family events like the picnics and International Night, supported our teachers with classroom grants, and showed appreciation to every member of our amazing staff.

We truly couldn’t have done it without you, and we hope you’ll continue to support our students and staff next year! As we plan for the 2025–2026 school year, we invite you to consider volunteering. We need more helping hands to make all of these wonderful programs and events possible for every student. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to reach out at president@marshallroadpta.org.

Have a wonderful summer!

Staff Spotlight

MRES Staff Spotlight

Mr. Chapman is finishing his 20th year in FCPS, with 8 of those years at Marshall Road. This is his second year serving as our Principal. One of his favorite parts of working at MRES is getting to witness students grow from Pre-K (which was added this year!) all the way through 6th grade—a journey he feels truly honored to be part of. Although his schedule doesn’t leave much time for hobbies, he treasures spending time with his kids during their late high school and early adulthood years. He also tries to fit in exercise most days of the week. A fun fact about Mr. Chapman: he’s a passionate music lover! He enjoys all kinds of genres, though he admits opera can be tough, and screamo is probably a no. He once heard that most adults stop discovering new music by age 30, and he’s determined to be the exception.

Thank you, Mr. Chapman, for your leadership, positivity, and for helping to build a true community of learners—where students, staff, and parents grow together, learn from one another, lead with kindness, and see each other for who they are and who they’re becoming. We’re so lucky to have you!

Helping Your Child Learn at Home

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is excited to support student learning over the summer. This Summer Learning Resources Webpage includes optional digital activities in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies for students in Grades K-6.

The activities are grouped by grade level and match what students have learned in school this year. Families can use them anytime to review, practice, or explore new ideas at home.

Resources utilize digital tools that students may have used throughout the year such as Science A-Z, Pebble Go, Gizmos, Newsela, MyOn, Britannica Elementary, ST Math, and Benchmark Advance

These activities require a device to access and some require students to log in through their FCPS Google account. Students may use a home device or their FCPS school device. If your child needs to borrow a device, they may check one out from their school prior to the last day of school. (Devices will need to be returned by July 30.) Some digital resources in Clever may be temporarily unavailable in August in preparation for the new school year.
