The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger Together

Dear Clearview Families,

At Clearview, this week was fun-filled! Students showcased their talents in many ways including the Jungle Book production, the Second Grade Musical, and Field Day. Thank you to those who joined us for these special events. Thank you, as well, to the many volunteers. Without your support, each of these things and more would not be possible.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Summer Learning Resources

To support continued student learning over the summer, FCPS has created a Summer Learning Resources Webpage for families of students currently in Grades K–6. The webpage includes optional, grade-level digital activities in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies that align with what students have learned during the school year. These resources are designed to be flexible, engaging, and easy for families to use at home.

These resources are available to students and families throughout the summer and use familiar tools such as Science A-Z, Pebble Go, Gizmos, Newsela, MyOn, Britannica Elementary, ST Math, and Benchmark Universe.

🗓️ Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips

Planning a family trip during the 2025-26 school year? Remember, good school attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When scheduling family trips, try to use weekends and school holidays, and refer to the FCPS Calendar when planning. Every day of learning is a day toward success! Absences add up quickly. The Virginia Department of Education considers students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) chronically absent.

Stars on Stage

Kudos to the students who worked with NextStop's team of teaching artists for the past 12 weeks! They put on an amazing production of Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS.

We'd like to thank NextStop Theatre  for providing this incredible experience to Clearview students. NextStop Theatre Company is a professional theater company located right here in Herndon, and they LOVE sharing the magic of theater with kids, families, and adults all over our area. They put on awesome shows with professional actors and also run super fun summer theater camps, classes, and kids' shows throughout the year.

Thank you to the parent volunteers who put in countless hours to make this possible.  It takes a village!

Keeping Kids Safe Online: The Importance of Monitoring Digital Activity

Monitoring children's online activity is essential in today's digital age to ensure their safety and well-being. Enforcing age restrictions on applications and social media platforms is crucial, as these guidelines are designed to protect children from content and interactions that may not be suitable for their developmental stage. Allowing unsupervised access to such platforms can expose children to potential risks, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and interactions with strangers. Furthermore, excessive screen time, especially late at night, can negatively impact brain development and mental health, leading to issues such as sleep disturbances and decreased academic performance. As at home caregivers, it is important to be aware of our children's online activities, understand who they are communicating with, and guide them towards healthy digital habits. Utilizing parental control tools can assist in this endeavor by allowing us to set appropriate boundaries and monitor usage effectively. For instance, Google Family Link and Net Nanny offer features that enable parents to manage screen time, filter content, and track app usage. By staying engaged and informed, we can create a safer online environment for our children, fostering their growth and development in a healthy manner.
