A Note from the Principal

Dear Daniels Run Elementary School Families,

As we wrap up an amazing year at Daniels Run Elementary School, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for being part of this wonderful, supportive community. It has truly been a pleasure to work alongside such dedicated families and staff.

A special goodbye and thank you to the families whose students are moving on to middle school. Your presence and contributions will be greatly missed. Remember, once a Dragon, always a Dragon.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Great Dragon Clean-Up No Sale Yard Sale! Your efforts have ensured that we will have a clean and welcoming school environment for the fall. We are excited to work on implementing tighter behavior practices and enhancing our community spirit even further.

As we look forward to the new school year, please take note of these important dates:

  • Jump Start Kindergarten: For our rising kindergarteners, an introduction to elementary school will be held on August 5, 6, and 7. A sign-up form will be sent to all our rising kindergarten families soon.
  • Kindergarten Open House: Join us on Friday, August 15th for our Kindergarten Open House, followed by a Welcome Walk in the afternoon. We will be also offering school tours for new families.
  • Back-to-School Night and Daniels Run Family Picnic: Mark your calendars for the evening of September 10th. It will be a great opportunity to meet staff and other families, and enjoy some fun and food together.

Thank you once again for a fantastic year. Have a safe and restful summer, and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!

Warm regards,

Susan Mullen, Principal

Blenheim Blvd Multimodal Improvements Project

As part of the Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvements Project, overhead utilities at Fairfax High School must be relocated. This work requires removing approximately 55 trees along the school’s frontage and surrounding area. Trees to be removed have been marked with a white X.

Tree removal will occur during the summer break, and utility relocation will be completed before school resumes in the fall. This schedule has been coordinated with school representatives to ensure minimal disruption. The area will be replanted this fall with native tree species that will not interfere with overhead utilities.

The multimodal improvements project consists of constructing a two-way cycle track and a shared use path on the north side of Blenheim Boulevard, a continuous sidewalk on the south side, and upgraded bus stops and shelters throughout the corridor. Construction is anticipated to begin next summer.

The city council discussed the project during a work session on June 3. Watch the discussion. View the presentation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sunny Sarna, capital projects manager, at 703-273-3067.

PTA Year in Review 2024-2025

Thank  you Dragon families for another fantastic year here at Daniels Run.  From our Back to School Picnic way back in September, to Pickle the Dragon visits through the year, we have enjoyed building up our community with you.  With your support we hosted two Book Fairs this year and got books into the hands of all our dragons, we bonded over Ice Skating, Bingo Night and International Night.  We took care of lots of business through our many membership meetings, in person and virtually.

Dragon Day was a great culmination of our Dragon Drive Fundraiser in October and the funds raised helped us bring our sweet chicks and more into the science lab this spring.  Funding the science labs purchase of incubators and hatchlings set us up for success as well as the ability to have more chicks again in future years.

Donuts with Dragons was another sweet morning of community building and a delicious treat.  The PTA enjoyed partnering with the P2 Kid Crew during the year in their efforts to spread positivity within our school, and it is so amazing to see all of our dragons embodying these characteristics every day.  Finally, we were able to wrap up the year with a wonderful week of thanks to our amazing Teachers and Staff.

We look forward to another successful  year this fall.

Please reach out to drepresident@gmail.com if you have any ideas for the future success of Daniels Run ES PTA!
