Leadership Ledger
Westlawn Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final newsletter of the school year! As we wrap up a joyful and successful year, we want to thank you for being such an important part of our Westlawn community. Please remember that the last day of school is Wednesday, June 11, and students will be dismissed two hours early at 1:30 PM. In this special edition of the newsletter, you’ll get a fun peek into what our staff members are planning to do with their own children this summer—we hope it brings a smile! We wish all of our families a safe, restful, and fun summer break. Thank you for your support all year long!
In partnership,
Christoph Hill, Stephanie Carpenter, Erin Theiss
Proud Principals
These last few days of school have us cartwheeling into summer! The celebrations that happen toward the end of the year are numerous and joyful: Field Day, splash day, the spring concert, awards gatherings, and even a visit by graduating Falls Church HS seniors! Keep track of what’s coming up using the calendar below or the one on our website.
Last Newsletter this School Year
This is the last edition of The Feather Report for 2024-2025! We hope you have enjoyed reading it and found it helpful. Our Family Communications Survey is still open and accepting responses. So, if you have suggestions for improvement (or kudos) for the editor, please share them there.
Ever Wondered What Teachers Do with Their Own Kids in the Summer?
Do you want to know the secret to having a wonderful summer with your children, full of affordable adventures and practical home structures to avoid chaos? We asked local experts--our staff members who are also parents--for their summer plans for their personal children. They shared fantastic ideas for book clubs, morning routines, accessible art and theatre, and more! You can read or listen to their top tips on our website.
Social-Emotional Learning for Families Resource Now Available
Help build your family’s social-emotional learning “muscles” this summer with the SEL guide now available on our website. A paper copy will be going home in today’s Thursday folder for you to hang on your fridge.
🌱 Your Child's Mental Wellness Matters: Access Comprehensive Services
Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed. The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other options.
Contact CSB Entry and Referral by calling 703-383-8500 or emailing csb@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Reminder: LEAP into Summer Reading
While all books are due back to the Westlawn library, LEAP is alive and well at the Thomas Jefferson Library! Learn about LEAP and other great summertime fun at Fairfax County Public Libraries on our website. And, if you have any questions about what your child might owe to Ms. Heyer at the Westlawn library, send her an email or a message on TalkingPoints to find out.
