Message from Dr. Khoshaba
Greetings, SoCo Nation,
Happy June, South County! As we step into the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for staying connected and involved—your energy fuels the strong sense of community that makes our school so special. This week’s newsletter is overflowing with moments that shine a spotlight on the incredible accomplishments of our students. From a magical prom night to the excitement building for graduation, our Stallions are finishing strong and making us proud. Honestly, I’ve been cheering so much lately, I’m thinking of asking the cheer team for a uniform—just don’t make me do any stunts!
Student and Staff Belonging
A Night to Remember: SoCo Stole the Show!
This year’s prom was nothing short of spectacular—an evening where elegance met excitement, and every detail dazzled. From the stunning decorations to the nonstop dancing, our students brought energy, style, and heart to the dance floor. It was a night filled with laughter, photos, and unforgettable memories that will be cherished long after the last song faded. Let’s be honest—nobody proms like SoCo!
Practice Made Powerful: Seniors Set the Stage
Our seniors showed up to both graduation practices with focus, respect, and a sense of purpose—and it made all the difference. Their maturity and commitment set the tone for a smooth and unforgettable graduation night. I want to give a shout-out to our student speakers, who delivered powerful, heartfelt messages that truly captured the spirit of the Class of 2025. Their voices inspired us all and reminded me—once again—that SoCo doesn’t just graduate students, we launch leaders.
Golden Hour, Lasting Memories
As the sun dipped below the horizon, our seniors gathered at the stadium one last time to share laughs, memories, and a beautiful South County sunset. Senior Sunset was more than just a photo op—it was a chance to reflect on four unforgettable years as Stallions. From snapping pictures to playing games and reminiscing about their journey, the evening was filled with heartfelt moments and joyful celebration. It was the perfect sendoff for a class that has truly left its mark on SoCo.
"Spotlight on SoCo: Our Own Tony-Worthy Triumph!"
Attending my first-ever CAPPIES ceremony was like stepping into the DMV’s very own version of the Tony Awards—a dazzling celebration of high school theater talent that brought the magic of the stage to life. Our Stallions shone brightly, taking home top honors with Cassandra DellaVedova winning “Dancer in a Female Role” and William Waugh, Kareena Kasperowski, and Natalie Mitchell earning recognition for outstanding “Lighting.” Their achievements highlight the passion and skill fueling our vibrant arts community. SoCo’s stars truly lit up the night—and proved once again that when it comes to theater, we’re in a league of our own!
Next Stop: SoCo!
Our future Stallions visited South County this week and got an exciting preview of the road ahead. From engaging introductions to our activities and academics, to honest and helpful conversations with our SoCo Ambassadors, the day was packed with insight and inspiration. The 8th graders asked thoughtful questions and left with a clearer picture of what it means to be part of the Stallion family. With this kind of start, the Class of 2029 is already headed in the right direction!
School Culture
Excellence Earned: A Celebration of Grit and Greatness
Our Senior and Underclassmen Awards ceremonies showcased the incredible dedication and hard work our students have demonstrated all year long. It takes more than talent to reach this level of success—it requires consistency, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, and our Stallions have shown all of these in abundance. We are incredibly proud to recognize these students who have risen to the challenge and set a powerful example for their peers. Their achievements are a testament to what can be accomplished through determination and focus.
Champions in Action: Celebrating Strength, Spirit, and Success
Our Athletic Awards ceremony celebrated the dedication, discipline, and teamwork that define our Stallion athletes both on and off the field. Just like in the classroom, success in sports demands consistency, resilience, and relentless effort—qualities our athletes have displayed all season long. We are incredibly proud to recognize these students for pushing their limits, inspiring their teammates, and representing South County with pride. Their achievements remind us that true champions are made through hard work, heart, and unwavering commitment.
Speaking of Athletes: SoCo Stallions Strike Gold!
Our Girls Soccer team showed incredible skill and determination this season, culminating in an amazing run to capture the Region title. Their teamwork, grit, and never-give-up attitude made every game thrilling to watch, and they’ve truly earned their spot as regional champions. Now, the next challenge awaits as they prepare to face Washington Liberty in the State Quarterfinals right here at SoCo on Tuesday, June 10, at 7pm. Let’s pack the stands and show our Stallions the support they deserve!

Meanwhile, our Softball team also delivered a powerhouse performance, battling through tough competition to secure their own Region title with heart and hustle. In a 13-11 win over rival Lake Braddock, our team persevered through a three-hour game! Their consistency and championship mindset have brought pride to our school, and they’re ready to keep the momentum going. They’ll take on McLean in the State Quarterfinals at SoCo on Tuesday, June 10, at 6pm. Come out early and cheer both teams as they aim to bring home even more glory!

Dear Parent or Guardian:
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time (10:00am) on the last day of school (6/11/25). Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/services/families-and-caregivers/family-academy/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed. Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Part II must be signed and dated by your health care provider. Approved over-the-counter medications given for headaches, muscle aches, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps do not need a health care provider’s signature. Antibiotic or antiviral medications for 10 consecutive school days or less do not require a health care provider’s signature either. For all asthma medications, a Virginia Asthma Action Plan must be provided. More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form(s).
Over-the-counter medication must be in the unopened original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian. No more than 100 pills/tablets of OTC medication should be brought to school at a time. All prescription medication, including samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or health care provider. Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time to be given. Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student, their medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, 703-446-1610, or your school public health nurse, Grace Matthews at gmatthews@fcps.edu. Thank you for your cooperation and have a good summer.
