Herndon's Success Spotlight
WAT for the Win
The Herndon High School Work Awareness and Transition (WAT) program is designed to equip students with disabilities with essential career and workplace readiness skills. Through various activities like career exploration, training, community trips, and real-world work experiences, the program helps students prepare for post-secondary education, employment, or other transitional activities. A notable initiative within the WAT program is the "Brewing Independence" coffee shop, a school-based enterprise that offers hands-on learning and skill development, empowering students for future success. Check out a video about the program https://youtu.be/mZr7f50zkW8.
Visionary Solutions Capstone Success
Visionary Solutions, the Herndon-based IT/Network Security company, is interested in developing the next generation of technical scholars. This internship program is a career pathway experience that provides CTE students with structured on-the-job training in network engineering, program management, and requisite workplace readiness skills. Herndon students, Hakeem Ahmed, Sevan Bland, Earnest Gant, Elizabeta Godaire, Steven Kodah, Jaden Luong, Matthew Wacek, and Abdul Zia along with students from South Lakes and Archbishop Carroll, participated in this internship program. A Capstone Event was held on May 23rd where these students presented on the nuisances of designing, configuring and operating network and computer systems to family members, Herndon HS administration, South Lakes HS and Archbishop Carroll staff, FCPS central office personnel, and Visionary Solutions Founder and Chief Technology Officer and key executive team.
Learning Life Through Frog Dissection
Biology students gain a deeper understanding of how living systems function and are structured by engaging in hands-on activities such as frog dissection. This process allows them to observe the internal anatomy of a complex organism, providing insight into how organs and systems work together to sustain life. Through this practical experience, students learn about the relationships between different biological structures and the overall organization of the body, reinforcing theoretical knowledge from textbooks and lectures.

School Board Unanimously Adopts the FCPS 2025-26 Budget
The Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the FCPS Fiscal Year 2025-26 Approved Budget. Facing years of chronic underfunding, the final budget required $121 million in reductions to the needs-based budget that was carefully developed with the FCPS community’s high expectations in mind. While these cuts and reductions will impact our classes, the school division will continue to do what is necessary to provide a world-class education for every student. Read more about the budget in this news release.
