RVES News and Notes - May 30

May 30- News and Notes!

Rolling Valley Families,

What a week it's been, short but absolutely packed with excitement and memorable moments!

Our 6th graders had an amazing time on their field trip to The St. James, always a favorite experience for our oldest students! They also hosted Silver Diner Night this week, thank you to all the families who came out to support. It was a great turnout and a fun way to build community!

Third grade wowed us all with their performance of Temple and Tombs! They did a fantastic job, and it was wonderful to see so many families join us to celebrate their hard work.

Our SCA had a meaningful visit to the Lorton Animal Shelter, a highlight of the year for many of our student leaders!

To top it all off, our local public librarian visited during Specials to help students get ready for summer reading. We love seeing our students inspired to keep learning and exploring all summer long!

News from the Clinic

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (2pm on June 11th )  . Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site  on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Comprehensive Boundary Review

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members can explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break:

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.

FCPS and Safe Routes to School return with an engaging activity to help get families outside this summer. The Fairfax County Puzzle Hunt, which begins Sunday, June 1, will offer online puzzles that lead to a location in Fairfax County and additional clues toward the final puzzle.

Participants who submit the final answer will be entered into a chance to win a prize. Puzzles are filled with creative thinking, logic, and wordplay. They are designed to be challenging and accessible for all skill levels as well as teaching about bicycle and pedestrian safety.

Plan ahead and think creatively: Last year, some folks created solving teams and scheduled meet-ups to solve together. How will you participate? For more information visit the Hunt’s “How-To Play” page.
