Oak View Families,
It was a true honor this past week to be present on stage for the Robinson High School graduation ceremony. I look forward to doing the same on June 10 for the Woodson High School graduation. Witnessing this milestone event was inspiring, and the senior speaker's address—centered on the themes of endings and new beginnings—offered a powerful lens through which to view the conclusion of our own school year here at Oak View. As we navigate our way to the final days, I encourage you to take time with your children to reflect on the many successes of this year: academic accomplishments, new friendships, and personal growth. Let’s help them see this not just as an ending, but as a springboard to new challenges and continued growth in the grade ahead.
This time of year brings with it many joyful and meaningful culminating learning experiences for our students. One such event took place in 5th grade today, where our students stepped back in time for a grand Medieval Day. Students rotated through a variety of hands-on stations, and the jousting event was surely the crowning spectacle. In true noble fashion, the esteemed teachers—pardon me, Queens—donned their regal personas and jousted with both grace and gallantry. After a spirited tournament, Queen Perigard emerged victorious and, with great ceremony, challenged me, Principal Luerssen, to a final joust. I must confess, the Queen’s skill was unmatched, and she now reigns supreme as the Oak View Jousting Champion. Huzzah!
Your Proud Principal,
Jamie

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year
During a report to the School Board this month, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days for elementary schools. They will shift to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year.
This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee, which includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings
You are invited to participate in a series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break.
Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.
Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.
Register Today for Summer Camps and Enrichment Programs
Registration closes Friday, June 6 for summer camps and learning opportunities offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students.

Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. CTE Summer Academy (CSA) is a week-long enrichment program that allows students in grades 6-11 to dive deeper into CTE program areas, develop skills, and begin career exploration. Watch this video about CTE camps.
IFTA is a two- or three-week summer enrichment program for students currently in grades 6-11. Students select from nearly 90 classes in art, dance, health and physical education 9 (which fulfills a graduation requirement), music, and theater. E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create.
