Good afternoon, KJMS Families,
We have completed our SOL testing for the 24-25 school year. I am very proud of the effort and determination our students exhibited over the last few weeks. Thank you to our entire staff, especially our testing coordinator Mr. Ryan Smith, for all their work getting students ready, as well as their professionalism and flexibility during SOL testing.
Best of luck to our track and field athletes and coaches as they compete in the championship events tomorrow at Robinson Secondary School!
We look forward to celebrating our former KJMS students next week as we have the Fairfax High School grad walk on Tuesday and Fairfax holds their graduation on Thursday! As a parent of a 2020 graduate who did not get to experience these events, I encourage families to take the time to enjoy these milestone events.
Some updates/reminders:
- Our whole school recess experiment in April was a success based on student and teacher feedback. We will continue with one recess for the remainder of the school. Recess will be from 10:20-10:40 each day, please try to limit student pick-up or drop-off during this time.
- Students will return their laptops on Thursday and Friday during Science classes.
- We will have a 7th and 8th grade awards ceremony on June 9th, This is an invitation only event due to the limited seating capacity in the auditorium.
- We will have an 8th grade celebration the afternoon of June 10th. Mr. Dejo has many fun activities planned for our 8th grade students. Our 7th grade students will have team activities that afternoon.
Enjoy the weekend,
Chris Smith
Principal - Katherine Johnson MS

We want to thank Fairfax Bible Church who decorated the staff lounges making them more enjoyable. Kristen and Hannah spearheaded the project. They placed coffee makers and kettles in the lounges that did not have any as well as providing K-cups in all the lounges. They also provided snacks that hopefully you all enjoyed.
Thank you once again to Fairfax Bible Church for being such a blessing as a community partner!

School Board Unanimously Adopts the FCPS 2025-26 Budget
The Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the FCPS Fiscal Year 2025-26 Approved Budget. Facing years of chronic underfunding, the final budget required $121 million in reductions to the needs-based budget that was carefully developed with the FCPS community’s high expectations in mind. While these cuts and reductions will impact our classes, the school division will continue to do what is necessary to provide a world-class education for every student. Read more about the budget in this news release.

Anyone seeking assistance from the Office of the Ombuds may call 571-423-4014, text 571-496-8284, email ombuds@fcps.edu, or visit their webpage, where you may Submit a Question. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
