Franklin Community,
We are looking forward to our 8th grade semi-formal dance later tonight. We have staff, students, and parents hard at work as this message was sent to make tonight a wonderful celebration of their two years at Franklin. Please remind your student that this is a school-sponsored event and all SR&R and Behavior Expectations still apply. I'm looking forward to seeing many of our students there!
Thank you to Ms. Seema Dixit, Sully District School Board Member, for visiting us on Wednesday! We were able to see some great things happening at Franklin: Shark Tank Projects in Civics, Morphemes Summative Projects in Reading, Balsa Wood Bridge design and construction in Engineering, and Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning form our Multilingual Learners! It was a great visit and we welcome Ms. Dixit any time that she would like to return to Franklin!
We also welcomed some of our Franklin Alumni from Oakton High School for a grad walk. The students were welcomed by classes cheering them on in the hallways as they took a walk down memory lane. Remember, this is the graduate class that was cut short in 7th grade by the COVID Pandemic, and most of their 8th grade year was completed virtually. This visit gave them a chance to talk to staff members that they hadn't seen since March of their 7th grade year! Thank you to our graduates for coming back to visit Franklin, and good luck at your graduation and your chapter!
We did have some fun this week with a Secret Staff Spirit Week. Staff knew what each day was, but students had to guess. We started off with white shirts and jeans on Tuesday followed by college gear on Wednesday. My personal favorite was "Dress like a student day," which gave me the opportunity to bust out my hoodie and Crocs with socks (see grad walk picture above). We capped off the spirit week with a vacation-themed day today: lots of Hawaiian shirts and flip flops!
We have one more full week of school left. Please help reinforce at home that students need to finish the year strong and stay on their best behavior!

After-School Program Parent Survey
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.

School Board Unanimously Adopts the FCPS 2025-26 Budget
The Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the FCPS Fiscal Year 2025-26 Approved Budget. Facing years of chronic underfunding, the final budget required $121 million in reductions to the needs-based budget that was carefully developed with the FCPS community’s high expectations in mind. While these cuts and reductions will impact our classes, the school division will continue to do what is necessary to provide a world-class education for every student. Read more about the budget in this news release.
