PTA Volunteers Needed!
|
With this year coming to a close, the PTA is planning for our next school year. We have a few open board positions, as well as some one-time volunteer opportunities. Email board@oldecreekpta.com if you can volunteer for any of these positions.
First, we need volunteers for our audit review committee this summer. This should only take two hours of your time and is a great way to volunteer without any long-term commitment. It also does not require financial expertise. You are essentially serving as an independent pair of eyes to verify that our books are in order, checks were written to appropriate recipients, etc.
Next, we have two open board positions:
VP of Student Enrichment - Organizes after school clubs and serves as a liaison between OCES and student enrichment vendors. The current VP of Student Enrichment will be staying on as president of the PTA and is more than happy to assist, provide e-mail templates, or troubleshoot any issues that come up.
Vice President - Shadows the president to prepare for the role next year and performs the duties of the president if the president is absent. Performs other duties as assigned.
Finally, we could use volunteers for our committees. The committees are very informal groups with no regular meeting requirements. Essentially, it's groups of parents who board members reach out to periodically to help with specific things. We could use support for the following:
Events Committee - volunteers who are willing to help organize our largest events like Laps for Learning, Halloween Howl, BINGO Night, and the Sock Hop. The goal is to make sure one person doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting to make these events happen.
Finance Committee - volunteers to help keep our finances organized, assist with our yearly audit, and ensure money is spent and tracked responsibly.
Membership Committee - help recruit new PTA members, particularly by attending events at the beginning of the year and welcoming new families.
Communications Committee - help design flyers and graphics. If you're feeling ambitious, we could even set up Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Email board@oldecreekpta.com if any of these volunteer opportunities interest you for next year.
Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year
During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. Read more about the reasons for early release and the proposed early release dates.
Don't Forget to Check Your Student's Lunch Balance!
- As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2025-26 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2024-25 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price meals.
