This week at Orange Hunt
Our talented band, strings, and chorus students showcased their musical gifts with daytime performances for peers and a magical evening concert at the high school for families. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
Orange Hunt Summer Reading
Last week our students had a presentation from the Pohick Library Librarians. They learned about the coupon book they can get if they participate in the library’s summer reading program, as well as many free programs at local libraries throughout the summer. Click here to learn more: https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/reading-challenges/summer-reading. There are lots of fun activities and book recommendations!
Additionally, all students will be receiving two student magazines from FCPS’ Language Arts curriculum, Benchmark Advance, along with a summer learning plan to encourage families to help students practice their reading and writing skills over summer break.
Students and families can also explore the FCPS Summer Learning webpage organized by grade level and subject and aligns with what students have learned throughout the school year. We hope you and your children take time to enjoy reading and learning together this summer!

POLLEN, POLLEN EVERYWHERE
Pollen is in the Air, Everywhere You Look Around!
As you look outside you can see the pollen coating all surfaces and just floating in the air. This is causing a lot of itchy eyes and skin. We are encouraging students to wash hands well after being outside and they are welcome to rinse face/eyes with cool water or make a cool compress with the paper towels in the classroom. Students are able to carry NONMEDICATED saline drops as long as they can administer themselves and use appropriately/responsibly - drops containing antihistamines or other medications need to have a medication authorization and be checked into health room by a parent, please contact our nurse, Kimber Tritten, at katritten@fcps.edu if you need to discuss this further.
Continuing to drink water helps tremendously with the congestion, so please make sure your student is bringing their water bottle every day, they have multiple opportunities to fill at our filling stations if necessary.
Plastic Recycling is Back!
Girl Scouts are sponsoring a bench for Orange Hunt, so we are back to collecting plastic.
Deposit clean and dry plastic wrap in the designated bins outside of the Cafeteria, outside Door 1 (main entrance), and Door 6 (near the playground).
Only certain items are eligible, such as: grocery bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, cereal box liners, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, plastic mailers, bubble wrap, and dry cleaning bags, etc.

Notes from the Health Room
Please remind your child that if they are feeling unwell in any way, they should ask to go to the health room. Students should not contact their parents through personal cell phones/smart watches to be picked up when they are feeling sick - the health room will call you if necessary.
If your student is absent due to illness, please leave a detailed message on the attendance line about their illness including any diagnosis (Flu, Strep, Pneumonia, etc.) OR symptoms: Fever (include if they have a sore throat and/or cough), Allergy symptoms, Upset Stomach (please include if the student has been vomiting or has diarrhea), Headache, etc. Our Nurse uses this information to track illnesses across grades. Any questions? Email our school nurse, Kimber Tritten, at katritten@fcps.edu.
